      A Hostel with a view

      Reviewed
by (21 reviews) , Canada Flag of Canada

Considering that it is the only accommodation in Milford Sound, the owners could let this hostel slide and people would still come. But, they are doing anything but.in our two nights there, we saw new furniture, new signs, and new artwork. Our room was a backpacker room, with four bunk beds, a table and a chair, but it was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchens were clean, and the scenery is unbeatable.

We booked a tent spot... but weather was looking for a really wet night. Luckily one of their mountain cabins had a cancellation. They are sweet modern cabins with a great view of the fiord!

Good location, lovely helpful staff, mostly dorm accommodation. We wanted private rooms, but there aren't many and they get snapped up very quickly. With 5bunks and 1 single bed in a family small room, so 11 people, it got quite stuffy. Added to that, Milford is plagued with sandflies, so the windows had to remain firmly shut the entire time.

Great place to stay in Milford rather than the carpark near the boat terminal. Great lounge, kitchen and showers and a little shop. Had a really nice atmosphere and really enjoyed my stay

Everything you need is here (including a little glow worm path to the side). Communal living at its best, with private family rooms, friendly atmosphere, clean facilities.

there is no tank emptying fascities here

we considered it a must so as we could enjoy the drive in without having to rush for our cruisee

it is a popular little spot, the communal areas are great but be aware the non powered sites are in the car park. Still a great location and even parking in the car park it was still better than other places we had stayed.

Glory Days Revisited (In honour of my London Semester friends)

Indulge me for a few minutes. In 1996, a somewhat naive 21 year old Jennifer O'Hara traveled to London, England for a semester of university. I think it is one of my favourite (and craziest) times of my life. I loved the city, I thoroughly enjoyed the pubs, and I made some …

Here I am in the most picturesque, scenic cabin after the most breathtaking, awe inspiring drive I have ever experienced. The Te Anau - Milford Highway is an experience in its own right. We arrived at Te Anau around 10, after departing Queenstown at 8.15. Its a pretty place by a lake for a stroll, to top up fuel, gather supplies and information …

Our suite was so nice we relaxed until mid-morning before checking out and driving into town. We headed to the gondola ride up to Bob's Peak and rode up to take in the views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Whilst a chilly day, it was sunny and clear and you could see for miles. We rode back down and headed for Fergburger, a Queenstown institution …

So I finally made it to Long Beach. It is a short drive from where I live in Dunedin. There are cool caves though and a lot of people have spent the night there and had chill campfire times.

It was a beautiful day but by the time we got to Long Beach the clouds had turned in and it was a bit gloomy. I really didn't care …

The drive into Fiordlands and Milford Sound was spectacular! Waterfalls galore, shear rock faced mountains, and a tiny road running through it. It was difficult to keep the car on the road not so much because of the treacherous road, but because of the all the rubber necking we were doing. Not to mention the hundreds of tour buses on the route …
