    Zombie Town

8:30pm Hanna is an old cole mining town. Everything is abandoned and borders up. Looks like a it was once a busy little place and then one day everyone disappeared. Totally feels like a zombie town. Slept up the road a way at a gas station. Ran into the cook from the elk mountain cafe hanging out at the gas ...

... two and two together. I followed them around a corner. It wasn't hard to stay with them. They were, after all, eighty. They shuffled along and then, over their shoulder, I saw steam rising off water. Ahh! The hot springs! Free! With showers (warm ones from the spring). I slipped into the hot springs pool all the way up to my chin. It was at least as great as the down sleeping bag. And then I had a real shower with shampoo and soap and everything! Heaven. Tetons, here I come.

This being a special occasion, we decided to order Rocky Mountain Oysters. They were battered and fried and rather chewy - ...

... we got there, he said, "gosh, it's still pretty windy and there's a big hill, you girls just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery, I'll take you up the hill to Quake Lake." Sweet! Quake Lake was eerie and awesome! It was created by the biggest earthquake in the U.S. on August 17, 1959 in the middle of the night. Many were killed and injured. There are now dead white trees still standing in the lake, as if representing the lives taken. Beautiful yet creepy.

... safely to camp, John’s knee continues to improve, and I have an ugly "clippie" in my hair…what else can I say about THAT mind picture?

We pulled out of camp at 9:00 this morning with the temperature at 51 degrees (it varied all day long depending on our altitude) and the sky was clear blue. We headed towards Wyoming on I-84 with the first part of our drive through some gorgeous canyons…still in Utah. As we drove along, we discovered ...
