Yesterday's drive was interesting following the Colorado river up through a canyon for 100 miles before hitting the interstate I-70 to New Castle. We went through Cisco, a ghost town that died with the steam train. 18-inch pizza at New Castle and bedding down with Mormons at Econolodge. Sunday was a driving day. ... headed to Dillon Lake for a picnic lunch. We just finished lunch and the skies opened. A quick dash to the car and we were on the road again. This time our destination was Mount Evans recreation area in the Arapaho National Forest. The road to Mount Evans is the highest paved road in North America. It opened in 1931. We travelled to the summit parking lot, 14,130 feet above sea level. It was a long, slow journey. The weather was closing in and we ...

The park headquarters, Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, is a National Historic Landmark, designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona. We arrive in Estes Park at the eastern end of Rocky Mountain National Park. The town is named after Missouri native Joel ...
