... and learned about the Coast Guard festival coming up in a few weekends (just missed it!). It was wonderful to spend time catching up with Heather, while the waves crashed along the shore. The tall grasses and sand dunes are just like Cape Cod - it's easy to understand what drew them to this small Victorian town.

After much deliberation, we settled on the Blue Pig Tavern at Congress Hall for a delicious dinner in a cozy setting (see picture below).

... mouth of Delaware Bay from the possibility of Nazi naval attack. Fort Miles and the observation towers were abandoned by the Army in the early 1960s, but there have been some efforts to preserve these structures. Built to only last 20 years, they've been standing for over 60 years now. ....guess they don't build things like they use to!

This was a fantastic place! This campground was right next to the Indian River Inlet. Next to the campground was the Indian River Bridge. This is one of the most beautiful bridges I have ever seen. ... the distance between the towers was known, observers could determine the distance to a passing ship by having observers in two towers take bearings and then use the known distance between towers to calculate the vessel's distance.

All-in-all, I had a great afternoon - sun, surf, warm weather, cool breeze,......ah, retirement!
