Bogota, Colombia micheleen... and I asked another person, who knew where it was and I was in the compound about 30 seconds later. So for any random person who researches my page in the future: come out the main exit of the terminal, turn right and walk to the main plaza (it may be a block or two north or south but it's easy to see the towers of the main {i.e. not made from salt} cathedral). From the plaza, if you have your back to the main cathedral, the salt one is down the street on the right hand side of the ...
Bogota, Colombia bt82... a Gold Museum which was interesting.
On our second night, we gathered a bit of a crowd and went to a Salsa Bar. There was this really cute (when I say cute, i mean cute and plump not cute and hot!!) Panamanian guy called Bernard or something. He dragged me up to Salsa and (blowing my own trumpet now), he said that I had really good rhythm and asked where I learned to salsa. I proudly told him, I´d never ...

The ride today was definitely a downhill affair, 30 kms of it down into the valley where we now find ourselves. The rest of the journey was mostly flat, with the odd climb, but nothing much to write home about. From a vantage point on the way down we could see a snow-topped peak which we estimated to be approx 150 kms away and stands at just over 5000 metres, we think it's a volcano ...
April 7th-8th 2007 Bogota Our plans for our last 2 days in Bogota were thwarted by Barb having yet another attack of a tummy bug and feeling not too well. Saturday morning Barb slept while Pete went hunting a Goretex jacket in the Unicentro shopping centre, one of the upmarket malls. They only had a few coats, all the wrong sizes. Bogota is nothing like Adelaide, where you can choose from at least 8 travel stores and 100 jackets. We visited the archaeological ...
Bogota, Colombia bansemerApril 6th Laguna Guatavita The lake is about 2 hours north of Bogota, and in theory a peaceful place. But that is not on Good Friday, when peaceful would be the last adjective to use. It is a lovely freshwater lake surrounded by a ring of hills, and was a sacred place to the Muisca people in pre-Colombian times. To get there you need to use the Transmilenio bus service to Portal Norte then get a Guatavita bus. You need to get dropped off at the end of the road into the reserve ...
Bogota, Colombia bansemerHey all, So since my last email I haven't really done too much. Luckily I managed to catch up with Betsy for lunch during our very brief crossover in the same city - was great to see her. She and James decided to chill out in Cartegena for a while, so I was off into the depths of Colombia all on my lonesome. Fantastic! Oh yeah, just remembered I haven't mentioned anything about Cartegena yet - fantastic place with the best fresh fruit ...

Bogota, Colombia jarrishttp://www.catedraldesal.gov.co/ zach, daniela, and i took a daytrip to the nearby town of zipaquira to see the underground cathedral carved out of (into?) a salt mine. although i thought it would turn out to be some catholic kitsch, the place was actually really impressive--an impressively, if not a bit theatrically--lit. the shafts leading into the cathedral were at least 10 meters tall and just as wide; much different from the narrow mineshafts we ...
