... Falls. We got to the trail, but chose not to do the hike. Again today, the storms were moving in. I didn't want to get caught up on a dirt road that was getting washed out. So we headed back down the mountain and back to Gunnison. The timing was almost perfect. We just got down to the paved road before the heavy rains came.

Tomorrow - Lake City, CO.

The storms continue here in southwestern Colorado. The Blue Mesa Lake is full, the rivers are high, and flash flood warnings are in effect. In fact, the folks of Gunnison are concerned that this weekend's kayak competition may need to be postponed because the white water is to dangerous.

We headed to Aspen early in the morning. It was our attempt to see some wildlife. Well the scenery was beautiful but we didn't see any wildlife. We stopped off at a scenic overlook of the San Juan mountains. In addition to the mountains we also seen the large reservoir. No real roads to get to the lake, you have to do some off roading.

We spent the day today at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. We started with a mile long hike from the Visitor's Center along the south rim of the canyon. The canyon is compared to the Grand Canyon except that the Grand Canyon is shaped from the erosion of soft rock, while the Black Canyon is shaped from erosion of hard rock.
