We managed to hang around the fire till about 10 last night, but the bugs finally drove us into the tent. To understand how bad our night was, you need to know the lay of the land...we were on the backside of a motel, just seconds from the main drag, which is a hiway. This was almost a 500 mile "Day Trip" but it was a beautiful drive, especially since they had a good snow fall last night!! Plus we needed a distraction today after the kids left!!
... and decided to go through Canada from the Soo locks to Niagara Falls, so are checking with our car insurance and our cell phone plans so that we are covered in Canada. We brought our passports along to be prepared for this eventuality. To get to Cape Cod, which is due East of us, we either need to go above or below the Great Lakes. We have driven around each one in the past, which helped us decide which route we wanted to take again.
Last night we stayed at the Porcupine Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon, MI. Had a site right on Lake Superior. Arrived just before it stormed. Lots of people camping in tents and there we were sitting in our motor home nice and dry watching a movie and eating popcorn! Too bad for the rain, we were hoping to see the Northern Lights.
Covered 4 states today. Stopped in Memphis at Mud Island and took a walk down Beale street. Stopped by Graceland. Ran thru Mississippi. On to Huntsville. 305 miles today. Over 1400 miles so far. Highlights: "Walking in Memphis, walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale" as the song goes. Some really cool stuff there. Reminds me of New Orleans...the smell anyway... Mississippi - State sign says "Birthplace of American Music". I'm guessing the first jug and washtub band was ...
