But it was either that or curl up on the pavement in front of the train station with the rest of the masses.

Fortunately, my arrival was the only bad part of my time spent in Bodhgaya. From that point on things got a lot easier and more enjoyable in one of the most important places in the world if you are a Buddhist.

It was about 2,500 years ago when a prince in his mid-thirties by the name of Sidhartha Gautama meditated ...

... has its own Temple here and I was looking forward to comparing and contrasting the difference between each temple. Our first day involved checking out the tree and trying to tactfully take some leaves without causing a fuss. I did find some nice healthy ones on the ground. Now I have 2 Holy leaves… the Bodhi tree and some leaves from the burning bush in Egypt….(I lost both of them) but that’s not the point.. That fact is that I had both at one ...

Bodh Gaya - Enlightenment

... those around us. From what I understand, Buddhism isn't a religion as such, more a way of life, a way of viewing the world and a persons place within it. In my opinion it is a corrupting, church-like system and so I can fully appreciate those that follow and adhere to it. If we had had time we would have visited other sacred Buddhist sites, but alas, time was against us and so we made do with this little foray.

XXX

... like us, who have come to learn and take pictures. Also inside the grounds is a cement pond filled with catfish. The surface comes alive when bits of food are thrown in the water. After a few hours in the temple we walk back to the hotel for a late breakfast. The food was neither good nor bad-just adequate. Since it was too hot to be very hungry we ate a light meal and went to our room for some rest and relaxation. Around 2PM, which corresponds to ...

... a rushed failed scramble from the tent in the morn. In most Indian hotem bathrooms the bathroom floor gets wet after a shower. With the glased tiles used on the floor the floor can be extremely slippery. One of the guys slipped bringing down a basin that was not well fastened. Witth one bathroom out of action I was kindly offered the use of another where I could cleanup and do some washing. Mandu was a pleasant place to ...

It was lucky for him that the train was leaving as he did it and he wasn't on the train as we both would have hurt him pretty bad for it!!!! The train ride to Indore was ok, and time was filled in with Cards and Shaun playing chess against many of the locals, he actually had a queue of people waiting to play him. Here we felt like stars, Loads of locals came up to us and wanted us to sign autographs ...

We spent just 1 night here before heading up to Hyderabad, which from the guide book, looks amazing, but isn't. Apart from the distinct lack of anything interesting to look at, I spent the majority of four days, including my ...

... hours. Back in the car, my driver tooted his way (the Indians toot at the slightest moving object in the road even if it's not in the way - the noise never stops day or night pretty much everywhere!) an hour down the road to Maheshwar. The old town is tiny but peaceful and deserted (again no tourists). It is a lovely ancient temple town which plays a part in some of Hinduism's epic folklore. Queen Rani Alilyabi of Indore revitalised the city in 18th ...

His sangha seemed quite restless in the Indian open air and one lady seemed to be meditating on how to get the marks out of her white trousers...
