Life in the Middle - Part 1 - 30 May 2008 So it begins... "Life in the Middle" - the title, if you're curious, was born during a free exchange with Shawna Sharruf and Robert Connelly a few weeks ago at Robert and Paul's home in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. So why does the title make sense for this series of "expat" tales from Nairobi? Well... I'm quickly approaching the beginning of middle-age (close enough) I'm bipolar and working hard to maintain mental health somewhere between mania and depress...
Hurlingham, Nairobi, Kenya imakespots... br>There are a few different types of planes, to suit the different places we will be going and how many we will be retrieving.
Some of the planes and good at landing on tiny airstrips, some are good at landing where there is no airstrip, and some are good for traveling overseas...
That is about all I know so far...I am sat here in my new uniform...with my crew badge round my neck waiting for the next call to come through....and I will be off!!! God knows where!!
... desperate. It's almost impossible to kill a full grown croc, so they dont really go there. The best thing they do is walk away unless the situation is perfect. They dont take down large prey unless they outnumber them and have a competitive advantage. They will eat smaller, less filling prey like a warthog if they cant catch the big game, for survival.
Hyenas will sleep in anything, mud ...
... This video was taken in a restaurant in Africa. I missed the first half of the song but I expect you'll recognize it anyway: it's best to only watch the first minute or so as nothing changes and it's a bit repetitive.
2. This next video is taken in Italy at Cinque Terra. It's hard to tell by the video, but it's gorgeous!
3. Here we are at Machu Picchu following a 5-day trek.
4. After biking through the Peruvian ...
... and she recommended that I try to volunteer at 2 big hospitals here in Nairobi....but it was all very formal and I had to write letters and get permission....which is fine...but 1 week later I still hadn't heard anything! When you are only volunteering for 1 month, 1 week is a lot of time wasted! I was pulling my hair out! So after a frustrating week of not doing anything except writing letters and phoning people to be told to phone back tomorrow, I sacked the idea off ...

Stopped briefly in Eldoret before continuing on to Nakuru, 13 hours or so on the truck today. We are staying at Kembu Campsite near Njoro. Tomorrow we are going into Nakuru National Park.
Dist cov. = km

... about a week to read. I do have 2 books with me but I feel that I will read them in no time which isn't necessarily bad. I would watch tv but there are some horrible channels here but at least some of them are English. After flipping through the tv channels 15 times hoping for something good, it becomes pointless and I give up hope.
Today I really do too much. I realized last night that I needed a way to transfer pictures from my big camera to ...
... the next few days. Upon exiting the airport, I have to say we must have hit at a bad time, rush hour in fact. It was actually Saturday afternoon, but the traffic was stifled, possibly for some event in the capital. A boy approached me through the window, offering with the brightest of smiles to sell me a bag of mangoes. I tell you, I don’t even like mangoes, but the price was certainly right, and the young man was most happy to sell to an American ...
Nairobi, Kenya danielwolfe... cooked dinner for the family this week. Our menu- red bell peppers stuffed with rice, kidney beans, corn, tomatoes, onion, and garlic with side dishes of cucumber, tomato, and onions w/ Italian seasoning, and chips and homemade guacamole. I have to say, it was a bit challenging to figure out a meal with no meat, no cheese, no oven, and ingredients that can be found over here, but we did ...
Nairobi, Kenya robynkelley... corn for us to snack on. Since I had been eating all day, this was unnecessary but I politely accepted. The pastor asked how we knew Patrick and I explained that he was the driver for one of my best friend’s good friend and his family. We talked for a while before Patrick announced that we had to get home for dinner. We walked back to his home, and I was thankful for the full moon illuminating our path. It was also beautiful and of course I thought of Stellah ...
