Arrived safe and sound; Dodging taxi prices :-)

A travel blog entry by rilaura

Having begun our journey by air nearly missing our first flight we arrived safe in Lilongwe (Malawi) yesterday afternoon. Passing immigration we immediately encountered a $35 tourist taxi rate to get into town. Since we had read that it should cost about $6 we questioned this until the 'tourist info' lady finally gave in and pointed us to the …

A quick stop in Lilongwe

A travel blog entry by burles

After a few days at Kande, we were off again. We made our way to the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe. There isn't much in Lilongwe, but we needed to go to the Mozambique embassy to get transit visas for Mozambique. Unfortunately, we got to the embassy a few hours too late, and it wasn't enough time to allow for our visas to be processed. With our luck …

The woes of road travels

A travel blog entry by quinitch

The day at Victoria Falls really was something special and gave me some insight into meeting locals – it's pretty easy! It would appear that any African who has even a smattering of English will do their best to strike up conversation with travellers at every turn. It makes me a little ashamed that I lack even basic skills in any local …

My time at Mabuya Camp was amazing, meeting people from all over the world up at all hours dealing with problems and dealing with my own drunken state, the job was certainly full on and full of fun. Tom and Janey my bosses are amazing people and I don't think there is a person in the world that would have a bad word to say about them, safe to say I …

Very average food, filthy chair coverings and airless dormitories. Plus only two showers and toilets to share between everyone. Not impressed.

brilliant place, nice accomodation with friendly and helpful staff. always something happening and plenty of people from all over to chat to, or if they arent very interesting it is easy to get to other places in lilongwe. swimming pool, can get laundry done (but dont mix bright colours up in a bag!), good variety of breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the on site restaurant would recommend it to anyone.
