Corcovado National Park

The big thing to see is Corcovado National Park. There is only one road that goes from Puerto Jiminez (where we were two days ago) to Carate and Matapalo is on the way. Carate has one of two entrances to the Corcovado National Park (the other is Bahia Drake, way more touristy and popular). The stretch of road from Puerto Jiminez to Matapalo was pretty ****** and had a few stream crossings (This stretch of road requires a 4x4, can't do it without). The stretch from Matapalo to Crate is disastr...

a tough trek

Get up at 4am to be taken to Siren from san pedrillo. From here its about 20km to the ranger station at los patos. Its a tough walk through one of the best rainforest in the world. Unfortunately doing it in this direction involves quite a bit of uphill. Takes about 8 hours trekking to reach los patos<br>

Parting ways with Monica

... t want to get romantically involved; our parting would then have been very much harder. Earlier in the week we had randomly met an older American guy called Rick in Puerto Jiménez and I happened to bump into him again after walking back into town from the bus station. He is leaving tomorrow as well so also had today to do something. He'd mentioned about wanting to hike some small trails in the vicinity ...

Day # 8 A Day of rest!

... is alive and I've since worked out the snake was a Common Cat-Eyed Snake, it generally eats frogs and was probably harmless. That's as exciting as it gets today and I'm really looking forward to doing little or nothing. Maybe surf for a couple of hours at low tide on the next beach... we'll see. PS. We went out fishing at 4pm, checked ...

Rain Forest

... Park. There we saw anteaters and a pack of gouatis foraging for Halloween Crabs, as well as many species of birds, including Long Billed Toucans. Why am I suddenly craving Fruit Loops? Though difficult to reach this remote area, we were rewarded by the peace and tranquility of no electricity at night, no traffic; only the brilliant stars blanketing the sky and the waves lapping the shore to lull us to sleep.

alright....get yourself prepared for a long and AMAZING blog entry!!! so, a lot has happened....first, kirsten arrived in tamarindo and from that point we have had some awesome times. we didn´t stay in tamarindo for too long, only a day or too more, with all three of us totally ready to leave. so, from there we decided to make our way south to santa theresa/ mal pais. both the girls haven´t been here so i decided it was the right place to start ...

Costa Rica revisited

... I will ponder this mystery and if I find the answer will post it so that you do not all have to worry like me. One other little mystery is how lizards are able to walk or run on water; they zoom across quite wide rivers as thought they were running on the land! We had three nights at the coastal part of the park and then drove to the other eastern entrance so that we could access the deeper jungle - the footpath along the coast from Carate was low jungle and scrub. So we ...

Leaving Behind Rustic

Overall our departure from Sirena was uneventful. There was a moments debate over what path to take, after which we made our way along the trail that led out onto the beach. We took one last look behind at Sirena Station, and realized that the trail we were walking on also acted as a runway for occasional planes. This place really was make shift and rustic. Our final hike would be the mother doozy. We had 16 ...
