... decing to walk acrs camp to mnch on some trees, aprently it’s a regular thing, you have to be really far way as they can charge at 54km an hour, fast!!
quite a cool experience to see elephants in such short distance so crazy!!
tomorrow back to Chipata to mamarulas to break up the drive to Lusaka, which is the capital of Zambia, long drive day Saturday to the capital roughly 10 hours, then 4 hours to the houseboats on Sunday on lake Kariba, exciting week next week!
... there is no rubbish like plastic and glass, littering the roadside as found in other African nations. But people are everywhere: walking and biking. Often people live in their huts on the land and not in villages, walking for many miles to get to school or get their goods to the roadside. One of the biggest assets Malawi has is its lake which seems like the sea with long white beaches and often very little can be seen of the other side of the lake. It was amazing to swim in ...
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia hans-jenny... and it's tourism provide an economy that supports the local population. Flatdogs Camp was awesome. It has a great site on the river across from the park where you can watch incredible sunsets , hippos, and elephants swimming across. It's an open camp with no fences and we were glad to have a platform up in the trees because the camp is often visited by hippos, elephants, and of course monkeys. We could hear the hippos walking by ...
South Luangwa Park, Zambia cerimattrtw2006... by a deep spring! Then it was time for afternoon tea, followed by another afternoon/night game drive. Since the people I was with today had not seen any lion yet, the pressure was on to find some. I drove a long way but finally spotted a pair which were in the middle of mating and it got the impression, they could have done with a little less attention by prying ...
Mfuwe, Zambia john_lengacher... by a sista by the pool or in the room. Afternoon tea was served at 1530hrs, then we went on safari until around 2030hrs with sundowners in the bush. We were lucky to see lions in the afternoon, along with zebra, elephants and antelopes. Once the sun went down, we went spotlighting and were lucky to see more lions and a leopard, among others. A four-course dinner was served at 2100hrs and then it was off to bed!
Mfuwe, Zambia john_lengacher... as elephants and hippos often enter the campsite during the night. There were a few tree platforms for people to retreat to in case they needed to get away from animals, and we thought it would be fun to set up a 'treehouse' for our stay! It turned out to be a good idea as the last night in camp a lioness was seen wandering around ...
Mfuwe, Zambia edamame... Africa, followed by Victoria Falls. We jumped at the chance to travel by style for a change. After a full day of recovery on New Years Day, we set off bright and early on the 2nd with the car full to the rim for the 6 hour journey to Malawi's capital city, Lilongwe (which up until a few weeks ago, ignorant wee me, never even knew ...
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia flowergyaru... out that night didn't see anything. However, being there only makes you want to see more so I hope to have the opportunity to! Anyways, I realize that I have written quite a bit but that is only because I'm so excited about what I saw and it's very hard to explain it and how it feels to be here. I will write more a little later about life in Malawi. I hope all of you are doing well. I miss you and I hope to hear from you soon. Love Amy
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia amykclancy... bucket through the baggage X-ray!! Our plane is a brand new (125 hours) Cessna 206. Piloted by a guy called Rob who comes from Mkushi, a farming area in North Zambia. This job is an interim measure to hone his flying and business skills before marrying and returning to the family farm. Would I like to sit in the front (co pilots seat)?... Hell Yes!! Rob tells me we are going via Royal Zambezi, a lodge with a dirt strip in the Lower Zambezi valley, to pick up 2 passengers. No problem, a ...
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia margotmc... spend in Zambia?" but in the end we got
our visas.
We picknicked underway where lots of curious children came nearer and
nearer but unfortunately were chased away by the guides.
Late in the afternoon we arrived at Flatdogs
Campsite, which is an adventure in its own right. It's a very ...
