We made it to Mores Reserve to do the 1 hr loop trail there just after 4:00. We took the spur trail to the hilltop lookout with views of Riverton, the beach and some closer islands but it was too hazy to see Stewart Island. ... to keep warm so I relished the opportunity to clad myself in thermals, winter knits and the full works- I looked like a Michelin man! I was definitely glad of the layers as we worked in one of the coldest chillers for a few hours testing the pH of the loin of the carcass at three different points. The carcasses are transferred around the plant by a hook on metal rails and dodging in between the carcasses as we walked the corridors reminded me of the railings ...

... colour which can be challenging as customers are used to seeing their meat bright red. The trial is looking at the effectiveness of 2 different types of film as well as the effect on fresh and CO2 flushed lamb. Once the lamb has been packaged and stored for a set time period it is opened and assessed for colour and odour as well as being swabbed for microbiological testing.

... Eyed Penguins land and waddle up to their nests, after collecting Jo we returned and spent several hours waiting and watching the Penguins and Fur Seals. A lovely Fish and Chip supper helped us keep out the cold as the evenings really dip in temperature not that it,s that warm during the day.
