... back to camp, we were a good distance from home and the light was fading fast. For the last part of the journey there was total darkness, luckily Jonters had brought along his LED torch (thanks Matt!) which helped minimise us bumping into logs/potential crocs! Then the engine failed, after a few checks the guide realised we had run out of petrol with no paddle and a very dodgy mobile reception. We managed to summon a rescue party and thankfully made it back in time ...
... Mecaque but quite a few Proboscis monkeys. Those are the ones that God though it would be funny to put a big pink cock on their face. Like Ben Afleck.
Staying in our room were a Slovenian couple, Jasna and Rok, whom we ended up travelling with for the next week. These two are lovely, despite being world class ********ters. :) One of the first things they told us was a very elaborate lie involving an Australian island ...
Travelling from Borneo to Perhentian Islands.
Anton the owner and deisigner of Patangan dii retreat took us to the bus stop where we would catch a bus. Then we would have to follow his map that he drew to get on another bus in order to reach the airport. We chatted to a couple of school kids on the bus who were extremely keen to try out there English on us, oh and they love Ronaldo…We soon found ourselves at Sandakan airport waiting to leave Borneo for KL only one ...
... found me wh**e mosquitoes the little *******s! Shelley then found a two headed insect! Amazing … until we was told it was actually to insects and they wh**e getting jiggy with it! Sorry to disturb you fellas! The guide pulled back a bit of pride as he spotted a flying lizard this grabbed Janes attention at the same time an Austrian guy who with his wife was having the worst holiday ev**! Found a spid**.
“looky looky a spid**” he called out. Jane declared ...
... It had a deck out back to eat on and you could swim off if you chose to. They had a tiny pool table in the middle of the aisle which provided endless hours of entertainment for several local girls on vacation. Who knew playing pool would be so exciting to a group of grown women. I think they screamed each time a ball went in and they played for hours. I was able to escape to the beach and snorkel after breakfast and spent a lot of time sleeping on the beach. Kevin happened ...
Mabul Island, Sabah, Malaysia savageharmony... red leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, sambar deer (their alarm call is a single loud bark), a giant flying squirrel (flying over 100m at dusk), civets (cute mongoose like animal), a Wagler's pit viper, a Sumatran cobra, 5 species of hornbill and numerous other species of birds, a Malaysian badger (turns out it is quite similar to a skunk when threatened-we're lucky we only got growled at!), a frog whose back looks just like a leaf, and many more amazing ...
Sabah, Malaysia dan.melanie... in the dark wasn't the best but in a group 8 or so strong it does tend to disturb the wildlife. When you spend the whole time watching for your next footstep (in thick ankle deep mud) it distracts you somewhat. It was a giggle if nothing else. Another attempt at cold showering to reduce body temperature and it has cooled off slightly. A quick cold one to bring the core temperature down and off ...
Kota Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysia danstravelworld... which we are really keen to see. Anyhow he came to our hotel, took us through the itinerary and then suggested this amazing place in Sipalong for the night. It is called Paganakan and the rooms are all in the jungle - well the edge of it anyhow and a few palm trees but it is really lovely and peaceful and we are in this long house with about 20 bunks all to ourselves, it is really really nice and Anton the guy who runs it is really really friendly. It is just a few ...
Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia brinvincible... the morning we woke up and had breakfast before setting off for the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. The rainforest in Borneo is luscious and wonderful - I have never been anywhere where it's felt so natural, but there is vast deforestation where the land is cleared to grow the palm oil crop. From the plane on arrival all we could see for miles were fields of palm trees - and on the roads many lorries pass piled high carrying the fruits from which ...
