... as we had been waiting for Robert to turn up. He had sent us a message not to wait up as he expected to be in a bit late. So we had dhal fry instead with a handful of porothas. Still very good.

... the many resort-retreats in the hills. Each offered a selection of treatments, Ayurvedic or otherwise, and were each very peaceful and quiet. Because of the strike, the low hum and occasional clatter of noise that follows everywhere in India, even here sometimes, was gone. The day was quiet, tranquil and as scenic as we could have imagined it. We relaxed and read books on the balcony back at the View, and settled in for another excellent home-made Keralan dinner. ... noticed the woman in front quickly get up and lean out of the window and realising what was going on managed to warn oblivious Nat, along with other passengers, to shut the shutter on his window or get a face full of sick coming in with the wind! After this lady got off a little boy got on with his dad and suffered the same fate. ... rope bridges have been put up to enable the monkeys to cross the road safely but the monkeys do not use them, they prefer the road.

... miles through this verdant countryside and on one day, managed to hitch a lift back into town - from a bus! "No. No cash. Just get on". EH??? Well I'm not arguing! :-)

Tea is the main feature and I can report the bushes are about 50cm high, grow only on steep slopes, and live to be over 100 years old, creating a landscape which resembles at times an impressionist painting, patches of light and dark blurring into a mosaic of ...
