Going-to-the-Sun Road Glacier National Park, Montana, United States, 59434
The book says this, and I must quote, there is so much to see I can't absorb it all, my mind's a technicolor show of awesome stuff. "Going to the Sun Road, 50 miles in length. Winds alongside Lake McDonald for 10, serene and quiet. Then a busy spot, Lake McDonald Lodge, rustic accommodations about a mile from the lakehead. A few miles further on, McDonald Creek, and then the roaring McDonald Falls. (We'll stop here when we come back down, I promise Andrew.) The road winds on and mountain wall...

East Glacier Park, Montana, United States chereThis was the big day of climbing up to Logan's pass. A big long hill up to about 6646 feet in elevation. Lots of stop with rest - my average speed - 5-10 mph. All cyclist riding up to the pass had to be off the road by 11:00 am. The road had been closed a couple of miles from the pass but it opened up round 10:30 am. I made it to the top by 11:00 am. We couldn't ride down the other side because the road was closed at the pass going east. Checked out the top and the museum then (rode) flew bac...

... supplies in St Mary. However, the fun part was beginning when we started up the Going-to-the-Sun-Road which was built in 1932 and was set to close for the season the next day (in fact, due to snow the next day, we were one of the last to complete the run this year). The road offers great views to those that are unafraid of heights and the summit is at Logan Pass the continental divide at 2,025 metres (6,646 feet).

I left Eugene following Katie who was driving a U-haul to move back to Idaho. From Idaho I drove north to the eastern side of Glacier National Park where I stayed for a few nights in Saint Mary. On the way there I stopped at a wayside and found I ...
Saint Mary, Montana, United States sjandbuddy... lots of tight turns and narrow cliff-hugging roads, some road construction and one-lane-only stretches. As we climb ever higher on Going-to-the-Sun Road (what a great name!) we enjoy the sunshine, which has been a constant during this last week. The lake and beach beckon, and we swim and lay around doing nothing, drinking mate and thinking about dinner ...
Glacier National Park, Montana, United States denisita... waterfalls tumbling down the mountainsides which run off the Sperry Glacier, and in the shallow lake are fallen trees, slowing becoming covered in deposits of silt. The Petrified Forest of the future? There was a ranger stationed on the shores of the lake, a student who had gained a seasonal internship to work in the park for the summer season. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we spent some time chatting to her ...
Glacier National Park, Montana, United States thebusmonkeysThe first stop of my trip was Waterton National Park. I camped just outside the park itself, knowing I could easily get a reservation there on a long weekend. After quickly setting up camp, I head into the park to take photos. There was a lot of smoke in the air from a nearby forest fire, so it didn't make for the best photography. Hoever, I did come away with a number of nice photos. After only one night, I broke camp and headed across the U.S. border into Glacier National Park.
