The Kruger safari experience

... width of 30 miles. At its widest point, the park is 37 miles wide from east to west. Several rivers run through the park from west to east, including the Sabie River.

That evening we dined under the stars in the open air with a large fire blazing in a fire pit.in the center. The food was tasty and ...

You only need 24hrs???

... had been seen and it's last movement was towards where
we had just come. From experience I decided to take a chance and turn
around, making our way back and combing the bush for any sign of the
creature. About 200 yards back was one of those dirt loops that extend
a little towards the river so I ducked down it and slowly edged along.
Nothing!!! As I was coming out the other side I started to do a U-turn
so as to do the loop once more before giving up. As I ...

Morning Safari and Moholohol Rescue Center

... Africa and nature are all about. As we are leaving we decide to head for an animal rescue not too distant called Moholoholo Animal Rehab, http://moholoholo.blogspot.com. Now this was an experience. Being here we hadn't given much thought to what happens to animals unable to survive in the wild. Or, as we found out here, animals rescued from humans. A MUST DO! The "driveway" is quite long and rough and the entrance ...

Waking after our first night in SA

... said she would help us with whatever we wanted to see. That she did. The possibilities were almost endless. She explained terminology of a game drive and a safari. We knew all that. Yea right. We did after she explained it. The city of Hazyview is an eclectic collection of stores, mall, crafts, restaurants and services. Not what we expected actually, but definitely not disappointed. Walking around we spoke with locals, were ...

Fog of War - Lead the Way Tank, I'll Heal You**

... this one lane highway insanity. I don't know if I was becoming delusional but it really felt like he was looking out for us. Every turn, he would flash his amber lights so that we would know where the turn was. Every time the fog grew thicker, again, he would flash his amber lights. I love this dude!!! I was so caught up in this follow the leader game that I mistakenly followed him to his exit... He probably ...

Goodbye my Animal Friends

Up at 4.15am to meet our Game Tracker/Driver at 4.45am to begin our 3 hour early morning Game Drive. Within 5 minutes we came across 3 lions sleeping in the middle of the road (see picture), what a start! Later in the drive we had our best viewings of the white rhino, they seem to be very camera shy. We saw more Zebras, Impala, Kudu and Buffulo plus another hippo in a large waterhole. But still no more elephants and no leopard. We left Kruger and ...

Lions and Elephants, Oh My

... us to the camp, where we relaxed, and then went out for an unsuccessful night drive. The next day we went out on safari, where we saw tons, almost the big 5, minus the lion. The park was beautiful and had a lot of different types of bush. We saw a huge herd of rhinos which was pretty neat. It was not as crowded as everyone seem to imply, and everyone was very friendly in giving us a heads up on what we should be looking out for. Our guide ...

Helping - cont'd and drive to Sabie Park

... to move ahead. The driver helped to load he and his wife into the van, and we drove to the hospital and clinic from there. The man and his wife will be there for about 8 hours before, during and after the operation and the hospital does not provide food. Neither the man nor his wife has any money for lunch so the driver, my cousin and I managed to find them some food for the day. After we got home, my cousin dealt with a sales problem the ...

gypsies and the law

Great sunny day yesterday, took a nap with Monks the protective little **** (he will sit with one person and then attack most anyone who'll approach with a ferocity that's actually scary) by the river up on some rocks. I climbed and he was hitching a ride on my shoulders. Very cute. Apparently, there is a law that says whenever five white males go hunting together on other people's private property they are allowed to shoot and kill ANYTHING THEY consider ...

Off to shoot lions... (with my camera)

... group. There were 16 of us in total so the bus felt quite cosy as headed off to the southern entrance of the park. You couldn't help but notice the odd looks that we attracted as we motored along and I suppose that a big yellow safari bus with big old tractor wheels did look a bit out of sorts on a motorway! Again this proved to be a test of my comprehension of distance and size as we arrived at Kruger at around 5pm having covered best part of ...
