... to identify the birds for us). We did not see any mammals though. We were just about to head back to the campsite when we heard Cort yell from the back of the jeep, "STOP". Well, me being me, looked out the side of the jeep, saw the cat and thought it was a cheetah. I don’t know why but I cannot seem to properly tell the difference between cheetahs and leopards. It became a running gag on the trip, with a 50% chance, I would invariably get it wrong ...
Chobe National Park, Botswana caralyn... something is dead, dying or being killed! We hopped in the car and drove over where we encountered a massive elephant herd with literally 100 elephants...who were not happy! Before we knew it the elephants were on all sides of the car. There was lots of trumpeting (even by the little babies!) and some of them started to run away up a hill to our left. Thank God! We think that there were some lions desperate for ...
Chobe National Park, Botswana amanda_schmelin... purified water I was wasting in front of these people who probably walk 20 miles to the one local well.
Speaking of water usage (or...over-usage)...we were told that a good/normal camper traveling our same route typically uses 10 liters of water/day which includes for drinking, washing dishes, etc. Well Chris and I were averaging over 40 liters per day!!
Pushing on, we drove another one hour till we came close to the park ...
... now so enough with the paintings and back to the truck!
We enjoyed a great sunset parked by a waterhole, sitting on top of the truck with a G&T! Classic! Back at camp we made a roaring fire with some steak and cheesy potatoes for dinner. Chris took inventory of the fridge and realized we were going to have a lot of food left over at the end but there were only 2 cans of beer left! I ...
... show us around and find some game. We stepped up ontu a 4 x4 open jeep, me and Paola at the back and the 2 boys had a row each. By this time it was very hot and we all just had t-shirts on, although we had been told to bring coats and blankets. Well you know what it's like, the weather is hot and you think (well we did) we don't need blankets, we'll just take our coats- how wrong were we!! I forgot to mention earlier, the game ...
Chobe National Park, Botswana salsasalt... of personality clashes and people with limited tolerance thresholds on the first leg, which made for very draining personal interactions....that's the nicest way I can describe some of the things that went on!!
Once everyone returned from the Delta trip, and some also undertook a flight (one of the highlights of my last trip), we headed to Chobe National Park. Where we undertook a ...
... schools (at least not mine) - and they are hard to find and expensive. Some of us had a conversation about that at lunch today. I asked if Amazon devilvers to Zambia????
We are heading to Botswana for safari. A pretty large group of us. It should be a lot of fun. We are going to Chobe, I think a National Park, in Botswana. I'll take lots of photos!
Have a nice weekend everyone!!
... turned around and low and behold the little jack russel we nicked named Flees was curled up on the bottom of Nats sleeping bag... we ****** ourselves laughing.. then kicked him out into the cold
We woke up early the next morning for a morning game drive in the Chobe National Park. It was a bit disappointing as we still have not seen that elusive Leopard ...
... since they didnt take dollars. A lot fo folk were in same situation cos the ATM was not taking their cards. We staopped at a campsite near the Chobe river and went on a river cruise, which was nice for a bit until the rain started and it was really heavy. Everyone got totally soaked and didnt see much animals. At the camp site my washing line came in very handy and was very popular with people, as was the south african travel adaptor that Lesley had lent me.
Chobe National Park, Botswana mrstarfire... which meant we arrived at Elephant Sands campsite for a late lunch and lots of it. We ate this overlooking a waterhole where we hope to see Elephants later in the day. The afternoon was spent relaxing. 'Cesca' found a new man in her life, 'Frank' was a fungal infection on her neck that is growing. Sarah C thinks this is probably due to the Doxycillin which she and I are taking as an antimalarial. As it is such a strong ...
