We were so pumped for this hike because it's the infamous 8 mile mud swim hike! We started off struggling, because the terrain was very slippery and damp. We had to climb a lot of uphill and in some places we walked through incredibly muddy places. Luckily, a little while down the trail, there were boardwalks because the ground turned into marsh and was incredibly wet. ...

... laundry to boot. Aside from the lack of AC, this place rocked!

Day Six: It rained on and off all night and morning and we opted on waiting til the next day for hopefully better weather for us to do the big hike up Kalalau Trail. ... Hike and Swimming trip up the Wailua River to the Wailua Secret Falls. This is the river that I was cruising along and looking at from a roadside viewing area, only days earlier, during the Fern Grotto cruise and then the Movie Locations Tour. However, this time part way up the river in the kayaks, we would take a turn off the the right where two rivers met, where the river then narrowed as we made our way further into the rainforest until we arrived at a clearing on the bank of the ...

... and then get out quickly. Still, before I could get my fins off and stand up, I got thrashed around over the rocks. I got out as soon as I could stand up.

Later we snorkeled a nearby beach and saw more turtles. They are so graceful in the water, and we made sure to keep a respectful distance. After talking to some people on the beach, I learned that the beach to the west had some Hawaiian Monk Seals crashed on it.

The Hawaiian Monk Seal is critically endangered; there ...
