... but it’s actually a bit refreshing – and something we’re not expecting to have last as we carry on throughout the region.

KL is, well, a city. There isn’t really too much to set it apart from many other cities, and in many ways the central area is even more of a landscape of concrete and metal than most. Until well out into the suburbs, greenery is hard to come by. We spent a lazy Sunday ...

... we had read it was possible to do it in flip flops! It was a struggle with trainers so hiking boots would be preferable. We reach the summit at around 8:45am, just as all the tours are due to leave Tanah Rata so we beat the crowd as planned! It was misty when we arrived but that's the nature do the climate too. After a look at the plantations and ...

We woke up early the next day, as we had to leave at 8:30 for our trek with the guide. I was in a very good mood that day, probably excited for the treks in the highlands. We took a Range Rover to get to our first trek near Brichnang village. The group was made of 8 people in addition to Francis, the guide: Ruth Bray (UK), Sarah Orban (Fr), Rx Ang ...

... sea coconut juice. It was delicious but mostly syrup, I think. The market runs on Friday and Saturday nights and is very popular with Malaysians. Back at the hostel, we further enhanced the 'Britishness' of our day by playing a game of Scrabble before dinner. We chatted to a Dutch couple who arrived today, as well as Paul and Tracy, two Brits who are almost doing the same trip as us but in reverse. They gave us some excellent advice to prepare us ...
