We got on the road early as we knew it was a big travelling day. Danny was expecting a few stoppages as the police are often out and about doing vehicle checks during the Christmas time. We did only get stopped once. The road was good once again and we seemed to move along at a good pace. There was a mixture of rich mining towns and shanty towns, and everything between, on the way up. We stopped at Zeerust to grab something for lunch. Up at 5am - yikes, it wasn't easy!
We could smell the dead rhino long before we got to it and made sure we weren't downwind of it as we watched the lion trying to chew his way into it for breakfast......mmmmmm, yum!

... water bottle. It is hard to keep rooted to the seat as we bounce along the dirt road. Our mission is to discover the leopard today. JR’s eagle eyes spot a rock hyrax in a cliff side high above and beyond the road. Trips of guinea fowl are like chickens, just managing to stay in front of the vehicle unsure of what to do. JR spots a snake eagle in a tree and we watch it as it takes flight ...

... the size of a nest.

Paul then spotted some white rhinos. There were two of them and they were close by. They had not seen us – their eyesight is not very good, but their hearing is. Paul frequently checked the direction of the wind by picking up grass and dropping it to see which way it falls. He then led us closer to them. It was very exciting. We quietly and slowly walked closer to them. We could hear them eating. We were so close to them and they had no ...
