Huhhuu, we are you Rhino?

As we would have had some 5 days left in Katmandu, instead we wanted to beat the crowds, hasis sellers, beggers and so forth and decided to spend some tranquil moments in the depths of the jungle. So we headed for Chitwan National Park in southern Nepal, famous for its wild life. Before the maoist insurgency some 90% of all travellers to Nepal used to come there, but during the last years the amount has plummeted significantly. Our trip there didnt start promisingly: first of all our supposed...

Día 28, 29 y 30 /10/07 | Chitwan National Park Y para finalizar nuestra estancia en Nepal, nos apuntamos al Jungle Safari organizado por el Jungle Safari Resort, Pvt. Ltd. Animal watching

This was my first time to go to a national park to watch animals in their natural living conditions, so I didn't really know if I’ll like it or not but at least the safaris on elephants sounded cool and the idea of you going to see the animals in their natural habitat rather than the animals being brought and enclosed in zoos sounds reasonable. In Chitwan they should have animals such as rhinos and crocodiles, as well as some rarer ones like wild elephants and tigers, which are ...

Pay back time!!

... to see anything much. But in fairness I had not embarked upon this trek expecting to see amazing mountain views. I know it is still too soon after the rainy season. I had to make do with the photos that showed what it would look like on a clear day! But the sky overhead was fabulous as darkness fell and the stars lit it up. We ate dinner by candlelight sitting Nepali style on cushions at a low table. This time I went for the Dhal Baat as well, but with chicken (having ...

Thankfully they each had something to occupy their time with which I find works best for kids and avoids wars. Ah, if only we could do this for the politicians...;)

Today as I sit at my usual restaurant where no one speaks English (though they say yes to everything I ask), and eat my Naan, roti and Paneer (cheese curd) in butter sauce, I celebrate my big thighs and J. ... use to describe that mountain.

After a minute.... the AWE of the situation finally registered in my emotions and I actually teared up. I think I cried for two reasons, the first is Ive never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life and the second is that I realized that there is such power when fulfilling a lifelong dream. I also thought about how very few people will ever get the chance to experience what I ...
