Our last full day in Mar Del Plata

... Joel had seafood again and I had chicken (shocker!). We then headed south to the downtown area. After finding a parking spot - with a similar mafia style parking to Buenos Aires, we went to Mar Del Plata's Modern Art Museum - with a large statue of a sea lion made from wrappers of a local favourite treat, the alfajores by Marta Minujin. Inside a few of the exhibits were closed due to the film festival events. I bought a nice pair of ear rings in ...

... with several different kinds of fish, and a white salmon dish with potatoes and a cream sauce - they said it was all delicious. We drove some more, to the point of a road that jutted into the water. A statue of Christ overlooking the port, and a large beach with many sea lions sunning themselves. Quickly packed our bag in the back and headed to the highway. The trip to Mar Del Plata was about 400 kms and we passed through a few toll booths - mostly inexpensive, but the roads were good. The scenery is so much like home. If the billboards were in English I would of thought we were ...

This has been a wind down day with general relaxing and exchanging addresses. At the 0745 wake up call it was already 25 degrees so the days are definitely getting warmer. It is now time to pack away the cold weather clothes and brace for high temperatures. One particular presentation today was really inspiring. It was an honour to listen to Laurie Dexter, the team historian, talk about the first group to walk/ski across the Arctic. ...

... each estancia, or farm. We've made it to Patagonia. There are no people here until we arrive at Comodoro Rivadavia, a kind of working man's town with lots of hustle bustle on the main street. Petrolium is the game here. There's little else as the land is just big hills of gravely dirt.
So we took the bus down the coast to Rada Tilly, the nearest tourist town. It has a very wide beach and, this being Saturday, there was a big rugby tounament going on ...
