Somewhat over-rated I felt. I expected the temples of Angkor Wat to be still covered in vines and lush bushland with all original work...but in actual fact it was quite the opposite! Still amazing to see don't get me wrong and I loved it..it may have helped to know a little before I arrived too! We stayed at Home Sweet Home, a bit out of town but a …
The border scam
Day 7 -
Up early apart from Miller and Ste and went down to breakfast and checked out and asked the hotel to order us a taxi to the bus station. We then got the bus to the border from Bangkok for £4 which took around 4 hours it was nice and clean and sort of had air conditioning. Once we arrived in the boarder town we got tuk tuks to the …
Cambodia - Part I
Leaving Laos was hard - it's a country with which I'd fallen in love. However, my attentions soon turned to my next stop, Cambodia, a country that also intrigued me; like Laos, it was surrounded by a kind of mysteriousness one feels of a country before experiencing the reality, but a feeling particular to Indochina. I perceived Cambodia as a wild …
Siem Reap
So it's 7am I am awake watching the Superbowl. Sports, yes, me. I have been awake since 5.15! But it's a good atmosphere anyway.
So we left at 9am by bus from Phnom Penh to here, the bus ended up taking 7 hours instead of 5/6. It went quite fast, and I finished my second book, Nicholas Sparks, The Lucky One. It was ok, but not one of his …

It's about 10 minutes walk from the main bit but it's close to the river, which is lovely. The room was huge and clean, the staff very friendly. The breakfast that came with the room was only a baguette with jam which is a bit boring on the third day!

I initially planned only to stay here for two nights but stayed for 4 or 5. It was a really nice place for $6/night. The staff were all very pleasant, always polite and smiling. The rooms were spacious and clean. Just know that you have to pay $3 extra for hot water and air conditioning.
