We decided on a white Xmas for 2011 and after trawling Trip Advisor for White Xmas Holiday Inspiration, and came up with Bavaria and specifically Bayerisch Eisenstein. ... have to keep all those Czechs happy and make sure they don’t go thirsty! Pilsner Urquell has been brewed at this same brewery since 1842, and they say the Pilsen lager inspired more than 2/3 of the world’s pilsner labelled beers. Thank you Pilsen! The best part of the tour was at the end where we tasted unfiltered and non-pasteurised Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from the oak lager barrels. Ahhhhhhhh!

Wow, what a morning! The exhibits in the Gäubodenmuseum in Straubing were extraordinary; the Roman objects found buried there in 1950 are amazing! Metal breastplates, knee guards, shin guards, helmets, swords, silver coins etc in perfect condition. The Romans settled here in 70 AD and called the place "Sor-viodurum" The Danube trail is well signposted, we have only lost it several times, mostly entering or leaving a city. ...
