On the Laos exit side a group of understanding westerners and locals kindly let us jump to the front of the line. We got the coveted exit stamp and then paid the exit fee of 20 Thai Bat ($0.66CDN). Now we had to get back to the Thai border and back to the train station!

... Mae Nam Mun river, we were soon to discover that this particular city suffers from floods during heavy rainfall when we were driven straight through them!
