Today we visited an underground iron Mine at Soudan. Interesting tour. We went down on the lift about half a mile and went on a train on the old ore train track. It closed in 1962 and was supposed to be a safe mine. the original workers were paid 3 times the rate to entice them there. they had to supply all their own tools and were paid piecework - the amount of ore that they dug out. We watched the bears during their feeding time and they seemed like intelligent creatures who given half the chance would take a peanut over a human, though I am still wary of them.

Drove 246 miles in 5 hours.
Awoke to a dreary, cold and rainy day, weather that I think is more typical here than the previous two hot sunny days. We were strapped in for a long drive anyway so luckily for us it didn't really matter.

... Tara took to it all right away, and Glenn was a trooper, though not enjoying the muddy spots. Kevin, Carol, and Karl's experience guided us through the tough day which ended with setting up camp where we would stay four nights. We caught TONS of giant smallmouth bass! The weather was decent, except for a couple of super windy days. We managed to avoid any bears or scary wildlife...just lots of chipmunks! As usual, the scenery was great. There's just something so cool about nature that's virtually untouched by man.
