Today we completed the Tongariro Crossing! One of the hardest walks I've ever done, 19km in 8 hours. We climbed over two volcanoes, one which was actually still active. I think the hardest part was the first ascent which they aptly name 'The Devil's Staircase'! We started out at 7:30am and it was freezing cold, but we soon warmed up after the first ascent. We covered volcanic rock, scree, ice, snow, grass, scrubland and then woodland. By the time we had ...

... I highly recommend them. Definitely the best value skydive in New Zealand. Check them out at http://www.skydivetaupo.co.nz I said at the start of this that there are those days you just remember everything. The sights, the smells, the internal feelings. We all die, but not all of us truly live. Think about ...

... 15% of the electricity for the whole country. We stopped off at the free hot pools on the way back to Taupo, really weird feeling when you get in first because the hot pools are connected to the river so in the parts closest to the river the water at the top is really hot but the water underneath is really cold. Good for people like me who aren't really able to spend too much time in the hot ...

    Trouble in Taupo

We'd arrived at Lake Taupo, a location believe it or not, by the lakeside – that is, if you would call it a lake! This thing was of unfathomable size! We later learnt it was roughly the area of Singapore which for a fresh water lake simply melted our brains. It also made our initial viewing seem rather daft as we crudely dismissed it after claiming we could see to the other side of it – we were in fact standing on ...

... warning us not to enter but to turn back. We were very confused by this as we saw no signs of any volcanic activity. The thought of turning back and climbing back up that big hill slide we basically just fell down was horrendous. We decided to wait for a few mins and see if it changed to green. It was then a man appeared and told us it was just a test to see if people took the lighting system seriously .... Phew!!! After a short questionnaire we were on our ...
