Toledo City Tour

If I am lucky today might be my day to get to Toledo. Got to Atocha around 9am. And guess what all trains full until 11am. Very angry. Do I ever get to see this place. Just wonder and nothing is simple in Spain.

I got the fast train at 11am and got to Toledo around 11:30am. If booking the return trip at the same time, there is a 5EU saving. Return costs 15EU total and knowing my bad ...

Holy Toledo!

As a day trip to show me a little more of Spain Carlos, Tory and I decide to head for Toledo, an ancient city just 70km south of Madrid. Toledo has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and throughout it's history has been important economic and political center for the Romans, Visigoths Moors and Christian Spanish kingdoms. Since Tory has only been here for a month and hasn't seen any of the sights this was a good opportunity for her to see some of her ...

... He explained that the cave has tunnels they believe go through to the cathedral. They are still building and apparently this cave is rated one of the top 100 in the world. It was incredible. Mike chatted with Javier and got all details - I was busy keeping an eye on Shae making sure she didn't climb any of the racks or pull any bottles out. It was a great evening and a nice way to end our trip.

Beats the One in Ohio

... 8217;s self-guided tour took almost an hour and a half because the church is filled with remarkable art, sculpture, carvings, architecture and clerical vestments. The Sacristy has a collection of masterworks by El Greco, but also paintings by Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, and Goya. (The Catholic Church certainly knows how to shop.) The treasury contains a ten-foot high, 400 lb. shimmering gold "monstrance" that ...

No Paella Photos

No Photos of Paella

Paella night began inauspiciously. We presented ourselves at the Royal Paella Restaurant at 9 pm having been assured by our hotel clerk that no reservation would be necessary. Upon learning that we had no reservation, the maitre'd perfunctorily dismissed us with an "all full." We turned and walked away disappointed and a tad forlorn. Remembering that we would be coming through Madrid on our way home, we went back and asked to make a ...

Toledo (better as a 1-day train tour from Madrid)

... best story is to come that evening:

We meander in the 36 degree 7:45pm heat and find a restaurant that looks cool inside (no outside patio in this weather) and a "menu of the day" which is a set menu for, usually, about 10-12 Euros each. We finish our gazpatcho cold soup and I’m working on a tomato salad and pork chop…..Susan has a veal stew…..suddenly, in her soup, is a black beetle ...

Finding our niche, losing our way

... their going to Spain and then Portugal was only a ruse for a proposal, but Freddie was not one to give out hints or subtle clues. Finally, we boarded, cramped and anxious with the pelaton; all of us on time and poor. I tried to sleep but since I never did get my Navy Seal training (seeing how I dropped out of Boy Scouts when we had to get badges), I am never comfortable sleeping with a pillow the size of four cotton balls and a ...

Exploring the city of Segovia

... time schedule! There was a guy on the bus who actually spoke some German and his English was really good too - so we started talking about god and the world - and it worked out perfectly that we spent the say together in Segovia - he's a really funny guy and it was really refreshing having someone travelling with you after I took my weekend trips alone for the last 3 months. We ...

... in communication. shes from Italy. Luca is also from Italy (Milan) and working on his second degree in engineering. Really genuine nice people, plus they cook me great pasta for dinner all the time. What apartment of 2 Italians and a Texan would be complete without a 21 year old Russian girl named Nadia. She also goes to school here in Madrid. An interesting stew, but it works..... Its always nice to come home to an apartment ...
