A legitimate Turkey Day in BsAs!?

... and yet they still get out there every Thursday to show what they believe in and what is important to them. I think Devra was also very glad we went.

Other than family visiting, I have been super busy enjoying the city and spending the last few weeks with my friends before heading back to the states. One thing that I did recently that is so of note is that my friends and I went to the gay pride parade which was amazing. Everyone says that being gay here ...

Both sets of fans started booming drums, shouting chants, and waving flags to the ever present background of shots and explosions in the nearby hood. It was an amazing show of rivalry, which made an Old Firm game look like croquet and cucumber ...

Over the course of our stay Diana fed us many times, drove us places, let us use her laptop for internet, gave us each a nice bookmark as a gift, and basically made us part of her family. Neither of us have ever experienced this kind of hospitality...ever. We were a nice presence for Diana as well...she was always exclaiming ¨Que lindo!¨ or ¨How nice!.¨

Despite the extreme language barrier (they spoke so fast I couldnt understand), we ...

B.A. Pt. 3: New friends, old friends, and Cat Power

The weekend brought Blister in the Sun relentlessly playing in my head - not at all complaining, awesome song - followed by Grizzly Bear´s I Live with You - also awesome. It brought us to the zoo, which had quite a few animals I´d never seen before, my favourite being the oso hormiguero - a big weird ant-eater type thing. Had a funny Chilean taxi driver checking out heaps of women, and played chess with Gayo (I was soundly ...

THIS IS HOW CHEAP WE ARE: Yes, we bought and drank a bottle of wine for $1...more than once. An overnight plane ride from San Jose left us in a coma like state upon arrival in Buenos Aires, Argentina at 4am. We stumbled into a bus, as directed by the owner of the hostel we had ...

... area completely. Having said this,it was allegedly in this neighborhood that President the Bush twins were robbed (its a wonder he hasn't invaded the place in retribution!). When we get back to Palermo, we happen accross one of the ubiquitous dog walkers in the city and, for once we have the camera with us to capture it on film. Most Potenos seem to have dogs as pets even though they live in small apartments. They seem to outsource the exercise of ...

At the ladies' meeting the girls got their first opportunity to speak! We were interviewed about our lives and ministries there and then all of us were at the evening meeting. The interviewer (Mariano Carbone ...

I met up with everyone at lunch where we ate and got caught up. We then returned to the the temporary clinic which was located in Barrio Toro, a very pour neighborhood outside of Pilar. Dirt streets spread throughout the neighborhood, with dogs, donkeys and other animals wandering aimlessly ...

A brief trip to South America, Spring 2005

... who does extra work to contribute to his pension. It is now midnight and on his radio a beautiful upbeat music starts... a march.... maybe by Verdi? It sounds familiar...I ask...it is the Argentinean national anthem. The fare is $3 the tip is a peso, about 30 cents. At midnight the hotel's doorman is no longer on duty. A little 6-year-old streetboy is staying vigil; opening the doors of the taxis...you give another peso... So there...and yes there is tango ...
