Cape Maclear Lake Malawi National Park, Malawi, 48
... there were plenty of offers for adoption (it seems you don’t need to be Madonna, $15 and a t-shirt will do the trick). Once we established that I wasn’t really in the market for an illegal child I was instead treated to a local dance-off, which was great fun until I joined in and was simply mocked for my lack of moves - up until then I thought I was an OK dancer!!
Lake Malawi National Park, Malawi corrilesa... 10 villages without electricity and running water. When walking around kids always say "Hello" (I'm sure some of them can say this before anything else, they are so small!), and "How are you?" and quite a few of them also "Give me money" and "Give me bottle".... by this they mean emtpy plastic water bottles and though we're not quite sure what they do with these we oblige where possible. I much prefer it here at Cape Maclear than where we were before as the local people ...
Cape Maclear, Lake Malawi National Park, Malawi sianevans... for the ants. Suckers!! Free night consisted of hanging out and BS’ing as usual.
The next day was a free day of our choice. Activities to choose from: various water sports, horse-back riding, village walks, bird watching, and mountain biking. The word around the campfire was the lake might be infested with some kind of bacteria so water sports were out for me. Naturally, I choose mountain biking along with a few ...
... maternity as this was the stuff that we knew least about and what would be needed most at Monkey Bay.
The maternity ward is the busiest place in the hospital with women dropping sprogs at an alarming rate and about 3 c-sections a day. When you walk on the ward there's women everywhere- lining the walls of the corridor, sitting on the floor, lying under beds, two on some beds. One day there were 208! Bear in mind theres only about 50 beds. Some of them are waiting to pop, some ...
... have since done our PADI course and are now qualified Open Water divers! The rest of the time has been, you guessed it, more swimming in the lake and relaxing. We probably have BIlharzia but don't think it will kill us yet.
I think that's about all I can be bothered to type - it's a sweltering 30+ degrees here and the lake awaits.
Hope you're all well. Next stop for us is Liwonde National Park and a kayak safari up the Shire River!

... us out back to their headquarters in the centre of town. So after talking over our options we decided to go spend a few days on the sure of Lake Malawi. I know I know it sounds awful to leave this place and go to a luxury hotel but trust me after the night we just had... and to top it all, my right eye now is starting to give me grief. So after lunch we all piled up in a van for the 4 hours ...
Lake Malawi National Park, Malawi fbauchet... bit sickening but I believe if your prepared to eat meat you should be prepared to see you meat live and die.The goat was only 20 pounds and fed 8 of us.
Dan's happy as the goat was killed with his pen knife, It still hasn't been properly cleaned and we were using it to spread our peanut butter yesterday.
We had to leave on Thursday as we had to make our way to Nhakata Bay
End
... is that! Trying to pack loads in to our last couple of weeks and just make the most of being in Africa! We went to the immigration office today and finally got everything sorted for our visas which is the biggest relief ever, God has been so good to us with that! Hopefully will get to write again before we come home! Hope everyone has an amazing week, please pray for our work in the orphnagae that it continues to go so well! Lots and lots of Malawian love! xxxxxxx
Cape Maclear, Malawi jennynewbold... my belongings. The trip was probably
going to take about 22 hours so I wanted my own bed.
Monkey Bay
I went and bought some banans off a street vendor, and just after I walked
away a monkey stole a whole bunch of bananas and ran off with it, all
the vendors shouting and chasing after it in vain ...
... cabins were convenient.
There was a restauran t that served good food and cold drinks.
Beach!
What was best about this hotel compound was that it bordered the beach
and a very swimmable part of Lake Malawi.
