Osa Peninsula, Oh So Pretty!

... run out of my room, out the house and down into the garden calling for my dad, he and the gardener went into my room and managed to chop the snakes head off with a spade. I have also been in a neighbouring farmers yard when a green mamba has unwound itself from a tree branch, hissing at us... These two snakes are of the most poisonous in the world, mambas in particular have enough venom to kill 20 - 40 grown men with one bite. These episodes have left me with a permanent paranoic ...

Day # 9 & Day # 10

... I have to say I was in heaven for an hour at the dinner table discussing what they actually do. A bit sad I know but I've been totally into that kind of stuff since I was really small.. Day 10. We decided to get off our lazy butts and go back up to Drake Bay, by boat this time, 5 minutes rather than the 60 minute walk. We did a zip line canopy tour in the primary forest on the hills about 5kms inland from ...

... and camping on the middle of the trail, specially because you have to cross three rivers and you have to check the tides to do it in low tides and be secure not to be surprised by a crocodile or even a bull shark in the first river. Besides more of the walking journey you have to do it when the sun is not very high because the firs 22km is just walking through the beach and trust me, you do not want the pacific midday sun just over your head. About the journey the photos speak for themselves.

Fantastic Osa Experience

... hikes. Max guided the first and Don Luis the second. Max took us deep down a beautiful mountainside. There were giant trees, several levels of canopies, bromeliads and ferns. A cliff dripped water from a spring. Norma cooled off under it. The weather was hot but definitely cooler in the ...

first couple weeks

... and all over Europe. Our first week we went out to Mal Pais to meet up with Pam, Ryan, Tyler, and some of their friends. We learned the hard way that Costa Rica has a valid reputation for not starting things on time, so while we were supposed to leave San Jose at 2:30, the bus didn't arrive till 5:00 and we got to Mal Pais around 11:45 at night. While in Mal Pais, we went to the Cabo Blanco National Park, played with ...

Costa Rica revisited

... can provide beds so we could have made it but now it will have to wait for another trip. Anyway the hours walk along the beach nearly killed us as the humidity was off the clock; in fact we have now been dripping wet for four days. It really is a beautiful and unspoiled part of the world with the jungle coming right down to the sea and ************e around. The beach is magnificent, the best we have seen by far. On one early morning stroll (I stayed behind trying to keep cool ...

In the Wilderness

... spots in Costa Rica so far. We took a day trip out to a nearby island and did some amazing snorkelling with really clear water. We saw loads of fish, coral and even a manta ray and morey eel! Since then we have travelled up the West coast through Uvita, Dominical, and Manuel Antonio. We had some fun surf in Dominical and Manuel Antonio had stunning scenery although it was really overdeveloped. Still saw lots of stuff in the ...

Flip-Flopping It

... wild that we had just gone through the day before, and that lightly tugging sensation of memories told us not to feel too familiar with our surroundings. After all, we weren't back in Hawaii just yet. Overall the contrasts of differing beauties intertwined with one another on such a relatively small piece of land was amazing. Reflecting on our surroundings allowed us to keep our minds off of the reality that the morning shadows were lessening and the blazing sun was approaching.
