From Lima we flew to Peru´s Amazonian capital... Iquitos. From there we left for a jungle lodge on the Amazon river.... name: Cumaceba Lodge. Even though the place could hold nearly 80 people we had the ENTIRE lodge to ourselves!!! Twas just McGarry, Whitey and a dollybird from Espana, surrounded by snakes, monkeys, a couple of tarantulas, a few poisonous frogs, alligators hiding in the swamp next door and millions upon millions of mosquitos!!! There was no electricty in the lodge, so night t...
Iquitos, Peru mickandsarah... 2 pound 50p). Its also a very safe place - cos there are no roads to make a getaway on.
Yesterday I got approached by a guy called Jorge, he said he was a jungle tour guide moonlighting on his one in four weeks off, what a day though, He spoke perfect English and took me on a day tour of Iquitos, went to the floating village of Belen - the river floods and the houses float from January - August, this time ...
Iquitos, Peru countyman... We hiked for hours in the jungle on trails that we don’t know how Falcon saw. When the river floods in the rainy season, it rises by 5m or more, flooding the whole region. Falcon pointed out the water lines on the trees from previous floods. Some of them were as high as Eric’s head! The entire area gets flooded, up to villages, and people paddle around from one place to another in canoe. Mammals retreat to the treetops or to higher ground until ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... Not sure how effect the SOS call would be, because with our enthusiasm, we should have had a barrage of help running in- but no one came.
We had lunch at the lodge and then headed out by canoe to a nearby indigenous village. Our first thought would be of people with face paint and loin cloths. However, this thought passed quickly when we realized we arrived during their organized weekly Sunday soccer tournament. Every village in the area rounds up a ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... br> About an hour later, a family of dolphins showed up. The bobbed around, surfaced, and swam near the dock for about a while. There are two kinds of dolphins in the Rio Maranon and Amazon-pink and gray. The group that hung out by the dock was a family of gray dolphins, and they literally just swam around for over an hour.

For being in the Amazon edges, reading about malaria, getting prescribed malaria pills, and wondering if we needed mosquito nets ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... about for the rest of the day.
So the following 48 hours on the boat pretty much went like this: laying in the hammock, sleeping in the hammock, going to have a shower from the cold dirt river water just to cool off twice a day, lining up to get given our meals in a plastic container for breakfast lunch and dinner, trying not to yell at the young children who were obviously cabin crazy and had started running laps of the boat, reading a little ...
Iquitos, Loreto, Peru bourlingueur... now been turned into a beautiful B&B. So...after getting some cash, my driver brought me there. He rang the bell, knocked on the door...no response. What the hell? Well, I'll never know if the taxi driver was scamming me or if the bell didn't work, but after several attempts to get in, in my exhausted state I just didn't know what else to do so I told the driver to bring me to another hotel. It was ...
Iquitos, Peru margreet98... 428 mossy bites and then set off to visit the butterfly farm which acutally had other monekys (inculding a special rare breed with red faces, which came running towards us on entering the park), an ant eater, tapiur, jaugar, parrots and millions of butterflys. All in all our time in Iquitos was amazing and full of the wild wonders of the world. Unfortunatly our time in the Amazon has come to an end and Lima is our next stop by plane which was deleyed! Good bye Amazon and all the wonderful animals!
Iquitos, Peru jon-daniella... skin!", before rubbing them onto both of his hands and forearms, as if they were skin lotion. He let me smell the reddish termite muck, which smelt like the wood they had been consuming. After our first nightly canoe trip, we went to bed. I slept under a mosquito net on the porch. My host's house had four walls, which made a small bedroom. There were no beds, not even mattresses. The thin wooden strips of which the floors were made ...
