I left Clinton, Oklahoma around 7:15 am to head for Sullivan, Missouri where I will spend the night. I drove approximately 516 miles today under sunny skies and a chilly breeze.

I decided to stop in Oklahoma City at the bombing site memorial. I knew I was too early to see the museum, but the site itself was chilling. The sun was out, no-one was around, and the stillness was un-nerving. Not a sound but the ...

This resort is another one with a beautiful pool (and another one available to us through Resort Parks International).
We went into Hermann, toured the Stone Hill Winery, the Hermann Wurst Shoppe, stopped in a Brewery (for Greg, of course), and then had a bite of BBQ. A good day, despite the oppressive heat (which seems to be the theme of this summer's travels!)

Any of them. For fifty miles.

We paused for food, and to formulate a battle plan (which was essentially "Let's find a ...

6:30 am start hopefully to beat the wind and any storms coming through later. Glad to see the last of Oklahoma. Stopped in Rolla, MO. So far we've missed the rain. Rain came right after we got settled in our room. Lucky for us We seemed calmer tonight. We picked up some dinner, watched some TV. We seem to be able to not think about it every minute and had a pretty nice evening. We know we'll be home tomorrow. That ...

... back to the hotel and checked out and then headed on our way, back on Route 66. Our one and only stop today was at Meremac Caverns - 27 miles of underground caves. This was supposed to be where Jesse James had a hide out at one stage. It is in the middle of a national park and inside a privately operated camping ground. We arrived at just after 6pm and got on the last walking tour of the day. This took us through lit underground caverns, and at one point when we ...
