Day 56. Thursday 9th October. Abiquiu to Polvadera Mesa Wild Camp. Apsley Cherry Garrard eat your heart out; today was the worst journey in the world. Things started so perfectly: we woke up in a bed, in our own casita, had a lovely breakfast of granola, yogurt and banana on our own dining table looking out onto grape vines, and boiled a kettle for tea on an actual gas stove in our own kitchen, before having a hot shower in our own bathroom. Lisa then made us a ...

... take to Africa and wanted to test it out and see what putting it up consisted of. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to put it up without any trouble.

I pulled into Cuba, knowing that I have better get a room, or have to drive at least another 50 miles till there was ...

I hadn't decided if I wanted to head to Santa Fe or Albuquerque to stay the night. But I thought I would head in that direction and see where the night would take me.

I officially crossed the New Mexico border about 30 minutes after I left the Four Corner Monument. But about an hour or so I noticed it was getting to really be late afternoon and I started thinking maybe not making it all the way to ...

... amiably with all the tourists.

We definitely stayed longer than my first predictions – Jemez Springs turned out to be a gem we weren’t expecting but really enjoyed. As is becoming routine, we had parked the van in a church parking lot, this time it was the Jemez Springs Presbyterian Church, conveniently next door to the bar. After a few minutes marvelling at the unbelievably starry sky, we had another good night’s rest after another big ...
