Stew and I took advantage of Marg & Bruce being around to watch the kids and in the late afternoon we helped boost Chamonix's economy (not that they need it!). ... and not the cliff-side, so it landed in the powder snow about 5m below us, with only the cord hanging out! There was no way any of us would be able to retrieve it, but we figured if we found someone with climbing gear they may be able to help us. Eventually we found a staff member who put on his crampons and climbing gear, abseiled down off the bridge and retrieved the camera for us. We were so very thankful (as the camera was FULL of photos from this incredible trip) that ...
... It went through tunnels cut through rock and over viaducts. We got glimpses of Chamonix and the valley down below as we chugged up the mountain. The boys were so very excited to be on such an amazing adventure.

There are quite a few fancy hotels around the place. Apparently a room in this hotel (Royal Plaza), starts at about $500 a night.... Everything about the country seems to be expensive. They claim the average yearly income is $60000. If that was the average no one would be able to afford to live ...
