      ... first snowman, but not so sure about how cold the snow was! Stew and I took advantage of Marg & Bruce being around to watch the kids and in the late afternoon we helped boost Chamonix's economy (not that they need it!). We bought new winter/snow weather clothes & snow boots for all of us. Stew also bought Mitch a pair of 6€ strap on skis.       ... and not the cliff-side, so it landed in the powder snow about 5m below us, with only the cord hanging out! There was no way any of us would be able to retrieve it, but we figured if we found someone with climbing gear they may be able to help us. Eventually we found a staff member who put on his crampons and climbing gear, abseiled down off the bridge and retrieved the camera for us.       ... It went through tunnels cut through rock and over viaducts. We got glimpses of Chamonix and the valley down below as we chugged up the mountain. The boys were so very excited to be on such an amazing adventure.

      When we got to the top to Montveners, which is 1913m above sea level, there was a little station and a historical old hotel, which was opened in 1880. We could see the incredible glacier winding its way down ...

      ... average tea and then walked along the lake. The gardens along there are very nice. There is also an exhibition thing on at the moment so there are sculptures along the shore as well. There are quite a few fancy hotels around the place. Apparently a room in this hotel (Royal Plaza), starts at about $500 a night.... Everything about the country seems to be expensive. They claim the average yearly income is $60000. If that was the average no one would be able to afford to live ...
