    ... dense forest.

    Once I did
get some altitude, the autumn colours of the near countryside complimented by
the many distant peaks poking through the clouds was very attractive. Most of the deciduous trees had bright autumn colours and on some the leaves were so dry they tinkled in the light breeze as I hiked past adding some magic to the scene. The
hike overall certainly gave me the workout I wanted and ...

The highlight though was our last stop at the famous (smoke on the water) Monteux. This mid size town ...

... and potatoes, with a side of dried meat. Now we're not ones for fondue normally, but this was super delicious - very smooth with a creamy cheese flavor that was not too strong. We loved it. Then we washed it down with Gruyere's famous double cream and raspberries. Say no more! After lunch we toured the castle - took us 70 minutes and it was fascinating. Built in the 1500's it has lovely gardens, a tower you can climb (vertigo), many rooms with period furnishings and museum artifacts, ...

... up on steak and bacon for Ci, some beer for me and salmon and eggs for breakfast. We also bought a six pack of frozen Twix fingers, so we could eat them as soon as we got back to the car, our treat for the day.

Tonight I am having authentic Italian mushroom risotto (I picked up in Italy a few days ago) BTW, it was not that nice event though I followed the Italian cooking instructions to the letter 450ml water simmer for 12 minutes.

    As we were back ...
