... 8217;t do nearly as much wandering as I’d thought I would, and instead just located a nearby restaurant and flung myself gratefully inside – hadn’t eaten since my uberlush brekkie in BA, and it was about 8pm by this point. Definitely worth the wait though, as I gorged myself on mussels, king crab, and chocolate mousse. Three courses, including two of the more expensive dishes plus a bottle of wine, and it still ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina suzloua... as we approached Ushuaia, jagged mountain peaks and lakes all around. Got there at about 9pm so it was dark but managed to find a double room in our price range within about half an hour. The room seemed to be a plywood shed tacked onto the side of a house but it did us and was surprisingly warm which was nice as it was naturally quite chilly now, though not as cold as we had imagined it would be. I was half expecting it to be about minus 20 with arctic ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina garyjampotLandfills are wonderful, exciting places. I personally try to visit them often, and it`s a different experience every time. The only place potentially more exciting is a sewage lagoon, but short of finding one of those the lure of a new bird at the landfill of the southernmost city in the world was too much to bear. With a few hours to spare on our last day in Ushuaia I decided to take the ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina nathangie... trip, even surpassing the fantastic beer we´d had in Latvia and Czech. Another reason some people come to Ushuaia is to board a ship to Antarctica, mostly small number icebreaker or ice strengthened boats. It´s a once in a lifetime experience which we originally really wanted to do, but at around USD6-7,000 (or A$10-11,000) each it was unfortunately out of our reach. Plus the season finished in mid March, so it was one of ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina roamingmonk... pick up bags from hotel; drop bags at pier; return rental car; buy stuffed penguin for Kyla. Ba da bing, ba da boom. We were at the pier almost exactly at 16.00h, as requested.

The Argentine customs process was a model of inefficiency. Or a joke. We passed through the metal detector, then were asked for our tickets and passports - because we were the first through - while everyone else was ignored. After walking along the wharf, we passed through another customs hut. One man left ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina ahartry... arrangements we really needn´t have worried. We stayed in a refugio (wooden shed) containing about 10 bunk beds and there was only one other couple staying there. It had a log burning stove and we got on really well with the other couple. So the 2 evenings we spent there were sat round the roaring fire drinking red wine and talking about life and travel. The national park itself is beautiful and we spent each day trekking. We saw ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina cliffofdeathSo! I got to Ushuaia just fine, although I was still feeling pretty ******. We got to our wonderful hostel and walked around the cute ¨Southernmost City of the World.¨ The town is small, and all overlooks the port where the container ships and Antarctic cruise boats hang out. The first day and night were really chill, even though it was clear that all ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina annapriester... its self houses a few active beaver colonies, although they seemed fairly inactive if not invisible when we walked round!! But still an enjoyable few hours, before our boat trip! At this point I would like to say that Lorraine is now serving a 1 trip ban, and therefore will not be able to book or choose the next excursion we go on. She thought it would be lovely to go on a sailing boat, and sail round the Beagle channel. Seemed a great idea until the gale force ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina loumark... We did get a good view of the bay though even from the half way point.

When we got down to the Zodiacs we were given either a whisky or a pisco sour.....before going back to the boat.

Back on the ship it was more food and off to bed after the early start...

DAY 3

Lectures in the morning but after lunch we were off in the Zodiacs to look at a glacier in Chico Sound. Later on the ship ...
