Las Aljabas 375 Ushuaia, Province of Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia, Argentina, 9410
We will post trip information here as soon as it starts. For 2010, we will continue planning the project and look for Sponsors that are willing to invest and support the Project. All indications in that regard is ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina pamericas4th – 10th September 2009:

Got the bus from Puerto Madryn to a place called Rio Gallegos from where we would decide our next destination based on the onward bus times. The bus was a bit late but still got there in time for an onward bus to Ushuaia which was lucky because that was where we wanted to go. It wasn´t really on our list at the beginning of the trip because we were led to believe that travel in Patagonia would be impossible at this time of ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina garyjampot... i had a feeling that my exit out would be sabotaged by some means. Saying that it was nice to take a break after the trekking and i got to spend st patricks day in one of the 3 irish bars in the little place...with the next day deleriously hungover staggering around a lovely national park, intoxicating the indangered flowers with one breath. finally the day of the plane up north shelley and i might as well have skipped to the airport, after an ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina condimentcrouch... calm on our return crossing and the time was passed in wildlife lectures and in major photo editing sessions... just how many penguin pics can one girl need?! Our last night on board conveniently coincided with Paddys Day and everyone was in high spirits for the final briefing, showing of the expedition dvd, presentation of certificates, Captains dinner, and celebrations at the on-board ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina fishtails04... small emus) and gauchos (not another local animal, but Argentinan cowboys) herding cattle. The long thin town of Ushuaia, pop. 50,000 has a beautiful backdrop of snowy mountains on one side, opening out into the vast Beagle Channel on the other, dotted with islands inhabited by seals, cormorants, petrels and other sea bird life. Just its remoteness and its windswept setting make it worth a visit in itself. The Yaghan people ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina roamingmonk... with glimpses of the lake between the trees.

When we came to a fork, we selected to climb up, towards the promised view. The trail was quite steep, but we had lovely views of the lake and far mountains. Kyla started feeling "low" - and it was clear we weren't going to make it to the ridge before our required turn-around time - so we decided to descend and have lunch at the tea house.

The tea house was very familiar from last visit and had a lovely fire in the fireplace. It ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina cliffofdeath... old home wares and food boxes. It has a bakery attached and serves some great local beers & wines, which of course we had to sample. We then visited a couple of the towns museums which chart its history - it used to be where most of the hardened criminals of Argentina were sent to serve time, and back then it just had a prison and a few houses and 1 store. It has grown in the past few hundred years, but still has a small town feel to it. Everywhere you go here ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina loumark... a taxi to the hotel, which found us fully agreed. To cut the long story short, on the way back from the hotel to the airport we jumped last on the last bus available after waiting, again, for about an hour. The flight was ok-ish, if you forget the fact that in the 13 hours flight we were served a meal at the beginning and a barely eatable Alisnack at the end. At the luggage reception we had another surprise. My ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina stathis... time's dream. This was a proper tear in the eye momentous moment.

There is a steep stairway to climb before you are up on the top of the promontory. Everybody then made a beeline for the monument put up to honour those who have lost their lives on this treacherous stretch of water. There is also the lighthouse and chapel to see. The only time I had seen Cape Horn on TV was on Michael Palin's Pole to Pole - I ...
