The room, the people, the food but foremost, the location is incredible. This place is an experience like no other, the beautiful sights, amazing wildlife and comfort of the eco-friendly lodge is something we didn't want to say goodbye to. There's so much going on in the dense forest around you that you don't know where to look first, the canopy walkway on a misty morning is awe-inspiring and the sounds of the rainforest while having diner is just unforgettable.

    An Amazing Rainforest Experience

The rooms, amenities and food are excellent, especially considering the remoteness of the location. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the guides are very knowledgeable and make sure that you have every opportunity to see as much wildlife as possible, especially of course, the famous orangutans. Definitely a suberb setting from which to experience the pristine rainforests of Sabah an all they have to offer.

We started with an early breakfast so we could leave at 7AM. We had a long 2.5 hour drive to get to Lahad Datu where we were dropped off at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge office. We had a lovely air conditioned check-in process complete with tea, souvenir stainless steel water bottles, and an overview of our next four days. We were then escorted to …

This morning, we got up bright and early and by 6.30, we were at the tree to see whether the male orang was going to get up. When we arrived by the tree, there were a few other people there and they said he'd not moved yet. Then, probably a minute after we arrived, we could see him stretching in his nest. We waited a little longer and then he began …

This morning, we woke up to the sounds of Bornean gibbons calling on the other side of the river which was pretty amazing. Bornean gibbons look pretty similar to Javan gibbons but their call seems to be much faster, which was interesting. We met Jeffery at 6.30 and set off on a walk towards the canopy walkway. When we got there, the view was …

Today started very early...3.00am to be exact! Our flight from KK to Lahad Datu was at 6.10, so to be sure we got to the airport and there weren't any problems, we were planning on leaving the hostel at 4.00. The taxi was waiting for us when we got downstairs but unfortunately, we could have had a bit longer in bed because it only took us 10 …

We first went to the Gomantong Caves, what an experience! This cave is huge and it's filled with millions of bats, cockroaches, centipedes, crabs and birds. The main hall is a huge mountain of guano crawling with cockroaches and crabs. This is all quite disgusting but at the same time it's also very beautiful, the lighting inside the cave, all that …
