Bilit Adventure Lodge
Travel Blogs from Sandakan
After the cave we had a 30 min drive to the village Bilit by the river Kinabatang. At the village we crossed the river by boat to Bilit adventure lodge where our lodging would be for 2 nights. We arrived just in time for a buffet lunch around 12:30. After lunch we got to drop our bags in our room.
The whole "resort" is built on poles. …
Today was an early start to get the plane to hop us over to Sandakan from KK, which left at 7am. We were collected from the airport and the first stop was the Orang-utan rehabilitation centre in Sepilok for the 10.30am feeding. On the way there our guide introduced us to this part of Malaysia and surprised us when he said that …
Hope you are all well!
It was very misty when we got up this morning, which made the river look kind of eerie but also kind of pretty! We had quick coffees and then off on our 6am cruise! It was fun cruising down the river and we spotted some more proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaques, some more hornbills and some …
Trip Day 1
We left the resort at mid-day for a two-hour bus ride to Bilit for a three-day jungle trip.
We drove through one of the biggest palm oil plantations; they used to grow Cocoa till they were ranked fourth in the world and now palm oil trees take up 35% of Borneo. Is a catch 22 situation as they are knocking down virgin …
The last part of my Borneo rain forest journey was along the Kinabatangan River. The good news is that there is really good wildlife viewing along the river banks...of course the bad news is that this is only because the palm oil plantations have taken over the countryside, so now there is maybe 100ft (or some times none) of rain forest left along …
How has this lodge rated in the past?
Fantastic location on the Kinabatang river just 2 minutes by boat from the village. Roofed veranda with a spectacular view over the river. Friendly staff. Good excursions with sharp eyed guides for animal spotting. Food was good and plentiful but not great. Buffet style for every meal and choices are often limited and repeats quite often. Plus for afternoon tea/coffee with a cake every day. Standard rooms and showers are basic and a little tired but clean and cozy with good aircon and fan.
