Today we crossed back over the border to return to Belize. Back over the bridge with lady charging dubious amounts for the toll - less this time. Documents checked again at immigration and customs and car sprayed in case of foreign bugs. Tony drove through and we had to walk through and then we were allowed back in. ... but that he isn't very good at it. Amanda went into an Infant 2 (=Grade 1) class. They were very proud to show off their writing. She did some guided reading with them as well. One little girl told her that she didn't have a sponsor, but that all her friends had sponsors. Unfortunately due to the ongoing rain, when we arrived all of the good sites, such as the ATM caves (with a preserved Mayan skeleton - the Crystal Princess, and Mayan pottery inside) had already been closed for 2 days. We waited another 2 nights hoping that they may open. They didn't. And it rained more. Every day. As well as the ATM caves (the main draw card) there are other hikes in the nearby Mountain ...

... Our tour guide's name was Danny, "Lord of Darkness." He was super knowledgeable about all the history and had a great sense of humor. After parking, we quickly hit the restrooms, because you cannot pee in the caves. If you must, they say you have to do it in a ziplock bag, and then make you carry it all the way back out--so needless to say, everybody squeezed out every last drop then and there.
