    If the Muslim conversion progressed from west to east (1500s or so) , why then is Lombok Muslim and Bali not, given that Bali sits to the west of Lombok. While you are pondering that, given the short distance between the two islands (32km) why is the landscape and the people noticeably different ?

    ... the volcano to see the sunrise, you get picked up at 2AM so we might pass on that hike. It was majestic enough today at a distance. We finally actually got on bikes. Caleb and I wore biking gloves - tres cool. 95% of the ride was downhill making it a rather easy day but over the course of three hours we wound our way through villages, rice fields and temples.     ... and falls landing on her bum on a step outside the toilet. We go over to make sure she is ok, it was defiantly a hard fall judging by the thud and the marble steps did not look very forgiving. Fortunately she landed slightly to one side rather than a flat landing (which may have damaged her coxis) so after a few mins to gather herself we make our way down to the waterfall. It takes about 10 mins to get down the steps Icha's knee starts to hurt after about 100 steps so ...

    ... do in Nusa Dua and possibly stay another day if it was any good... It wasn't as there appeared to be nothing much here at all. We went for a meal for Emma's birthday and the restaurant had a live singer who was taking requests so we obviously requested happy birthday! So Emma had Happy Birthday sung to her by complete strangers for the second time in a few hours, or as the Balinese pronounce it "happy birsssssday". Happy Birssssday Emma! ...
