Scenic wonderland ...

Day 19 (Thursday): Leisurely brekkie before our (very) short drive to Lake Louise. Worth taking the Bow Valley Parkway as soon as you can (not well sign posted - take the Castle Mountain turnoff about 5km from Banff). Stumbled upon an eagle's nest (eerie) above the bridge between Highway 1 and Cradle Mountain which nobody else seemed to notice ... …

Tuesday 19th More Baker Creek adventures Woke up to find that overnight rain had put out the forest fire. So at least we were not evacuated with singed hair!Had one of the only lay ins of the holiday! Drove back to Moraine Lake for a supposedly gentle hike to Consolation Lake. This was in an area of the park known for grizzly bears so we had to …

Monday 18th - We travelled back along the beautiful Trans Cananda Highway towards Lake Louise, after bidding a sad farewell to Patricia Lake - it really had been a very special few days there. Enroute we decided to stop and go onto the Columbia Icefield, which is the largest expanse of ice south of the Arctic circle and is fed by 6 glaciers, the …

Great chalet about 15 minutes out of Lake Louise but worth the drive. Spacious cabin with gas fireplace and Jacuzzi in the main room! Pleasant balcony with forest / mountain views. Café / restaurant was great - especially the mussels! No TV and poor reception so very relaxing .... even had time for a jigsaw and cards! Staff were very friendly and attention to detail amazing .... only downside was no ironing board and plenty of mozzies!
