Historical Traveler Reviews Aquamare Beach Hotel & Spa Paphos

    Aquamare beware

    from

have just returned from the aquamare and yes it is new and looks great but the food is very poor more like a 2 star there was only 28 people all british staying and this dwindled to less over two weeks so felt there was no reason to be given poor quality food. Breakfast was buffet style so not to many problems except scrambled eggs sat in wartery liquid and bacon was not topped up so for two days only 4 slices was in container we did not have lunch so cannot comment but o dear the evening meal was awfull the veg was not fresh broccoli came up yellow, the rest was we felt frozen and lacked choice ( the same every night, carrot, parsnip and sweetcorn) only had salad once and that was a side dish, meat was frozen or pre packed so no taste or it came in breadcrumbs, fish was the same as meat, soup ok but not freshly made, puddings ok but felt they where brought in, the pasta sauce was used for everything that needed tomato sauce and it was always the same taste so felt that must have been out of a can and the pasta well italians eat and weep! why o why did they keep running out of wines with so few people. The food tried to look good on the plate but was very small portions and just warm, we talked to the chef about the quality of the food who smiled and said they tried to be international in the cooking ,mmm not sure what he ment by that !spoke to the manager and that seemed to have a result. .We had heard that there had been many complaints about the food and felt sorry for the waiting staff who bore the thin end, hope it will improve because it is a super looking hotel with good intentions just needs to look at the managment staff and how they are not performing

Definitely worth staying or at least a visit and a drink!

    from

The hotel has a varietd look and feel to it. It is a mixture of practicalness, expensive taste, down to earth but at the same time a touch of class.

There has been a government conference and kids party in the conference room. A Greek football team, English and Greek families, business and travellers have stayed here. So it passes and can cater for a whole range of people's tastes.

I have stayed at the hotel and the beds are very comfortable, the shower work's extremely well, with proper pressure and heat - hard to get out of, once your in.

If you get a sea view room the scenery is beautiful, and when the sun shines in the summer its a stunning sea location.

The meals vary, sometimes there is a buffet - all you can eat, or set themed meal nights and an a la carte menu. Certain nights there is live music in the restaurant with singing or a band and the meals are an extremely good price.

The hotel offers a range of different amenities, broadband, tennis courts, indoor swimming pool and outdoor swimming pool, spa, massages and sun beds.

The bar/restaurant/kitchen staff are lovely and are always there to help.

The hotel is definitely worth considering. Brand new and getting better each time I go there..even for a drink in the bar or to use the Spa and Gym.

    Fantastic Hotel!

    from

Just returned from a fantastic week at the Aquamare and am already looking for deals for a return visit!

After reading mixed reviews on this site we were a little apprehensive before arriving but it turned out to be a great hotel.

It was very quiet and not all the facilities were open - some due to the time of year (outdoor pool and bar), and some were non existent (the shop!). However, we went for a relaxing holiday, with no great expectations, and we had a lovely time.

We had a sea facing room on the 4th floor (which is completely non smoking). The views were lovely, the room was not the biggest we have ever stayed in but there was plenty of room for the two of us. It was well furnished and the bathroom had a great power shower! Our only complaint was that the bed was a bit firmer that we would have liked! We didnt complain, but I am sure if we had then the staff would have sorted something out quickly - all the staff were polite and more than willing to help. We requested an iron and it was delivered to our room within minutes, along with an ironing board.

We booked half board as it was literally only a couple of pounds more expensive than B & B and we thought if we only had one meal in the hotel it would be worth it. We had no complaints about the food at all. We only managed to get up for breakfast a couple of times (we went for a relaxing holiday after all!!!) but it was great - plenty of selection on the buffet. We also only had a couple of evening meals but they were really good. I guess when the hotel is busier - I have no doubt this is going to be a really busy hotel - evening meals will be a buffet, at the moment there is a choice from a menu that changes daily of 3 starters, a soup course, three mains and three desserts.

The hotel is in a good location and there are loads of restaurants close by. Our favourite was the Italian at the Alithion holiday village on the opposite side of the road from the hotel just a couple of hundred metres down towards the main town (on the first floor above the supermarket). The Indian there is also worth a visit.

The indoor pool is lovely and the jacuzzi is fab - unfortunately we only discoverd this the day before we left, otherwise I would have been in there every day. The member of staff on duty patiently explained to us how to use it and checked we were ok, all without being intrusive.

There were a couple of guys staying at the hotel who appeared to be from UK holiday firms, so I dont think it will be long before this hotel is appearing in our holiday brochures.

We had a great week and cannot wait to go back for another visit!

Great Hotel - Looking forward to going again !

    from

Well my experence of The Hotel Aquamare has been nothing short of superb.

I was travel weary upon arrival and right from the word go the staff bent over backwards to help me and assist me in any way they could.

And so off to my room .. I received a superb upgrade to a seaview room and the views over the sea were fabulous.

In the week that I was there I used the swimming pool and the ( extremely well equiped and modern ) gym.

I have stayed in many superb hotels over the years but the gym in this hotel is the best I have ever used !

Food in the moring was a large buffet affair, with fresh fruit, cereal, cooked breakfast, etc.

I had dinner there during the day that was excellent and had some evening meals there too.

A simple and efficient menu was offered during the day and on one of the evenings there was a themed buffet.

I appreciated the internet access as I was able to go through emails and keep in touch with friends during my stay.

Some mornings I would have some fresh fruit for breakfast and stroll down to the sea front.

The sea front was very close to The Hotel ( some travel brochures describe a seafront as a short walk away and when you get there you find it is miles away

    !! this really was a SHORT walk ! )

A calm and peaceful environment indeed.

Lovely bay cove to the left of The Hotel.

And as if life could'nt get any better during my stay .. I decided to treat myself to a lovely facial and massage in the Hotel's Health and Beauty shop.

The staff there were very proffessional and catered for all my needs !

And what a massage .. I did not want go !

The Hotel foyer is clean and modern but with some interesting touches in art and decor.

As you may have gathered I liked this Hotel and I would be hard pushed to fault anything during my wonderful week there.

The staff were very friendly and polite and always had a smile .. things like this add to the 'feel good factor' of a hotel I think.

I guess the 'proof in the pudding' is the fact I am already booked to go back next month ... I am dreaming of that lovely sea view and massage already !

    A must stay!

    from

I stayed at the Aquamare Hotel in February 2007 and had a fabulous stay. As soon as I walked through the front door I felt a breath of relaxation and cleanliness. It is a great place to relax, staff were more than helpful, rooms were great very comfortable, very relaxing and peaceful hotel, the food was amazing (where else would you get a 3 course meal for 10 cyp) I couldn't believe it and the breakfasts were to die for to.

The hotel also has spa and leisure facilities anything you want is at the Aquamare no need to go down the street. Walk out the front door and you feel the breath of fresh air from the beach.

This hotel I would recommend to anyone and so much so I am going back a month later.

    A must stay!

Good Hotel Needs more people to stay

    from

This hotel was good especially as far as decor and food are concerned. Food was fabulous value evening 3/4 course for circa£20.00. Buffet breakfast great.

If I have to say something slightly negative it needs more people this was Feb I hope in the summer its bursting with people as it felt so quiet that it lacked a little atmosphere. Maybe some quiet music would help. Also the decor was class in the breakfast room and gorgoeus sofas etc in lobby but not that its a big deal but I felt they could improve the paintings perhaps more in keeping with the fancy decor and furnishing vs the typical sea images which didnt blend with the rich reds and wines. The pool and spa had a 5* feel to them and I hope this hotel does well. I must also stress this hotel is so new therefore apparently they are still working and iroining everything out before the high season... not that it felt like this as staff in the restaurants were very good extra attentive, we had a baby accompaying us and our friend was made to feel relaxed by the staff and gusets when any baby noise was made which was few and far between! The bar man does need a little more practise it was obvious he was a new comer so we did feel for him but he must get more familliar with cocktails we asked for a vodka tia maria and coke (I didnt call it a Black Russian as his slow and confused demeanor on the first round spelled his experience out) Anyway he seemed puzzled at my choice and quetioned were they in one glass in a surprised tone. But he was sweet. As it was winter I never checked out the outdoor pool but it looke good and right on the beach. Our room had a fab sea view. I would stay again.

Will be back for a return visit

    from

I had a lovely week at the AquaMare Beach Spa Hotel in Paphos , Cyprus, the hotel is only a short drive from the centre of town and the international airport, it is backed by beachfront and faces a large open field/agricultural area to the front. I found the staff were friendly and helpful.

The Hotel is brand spanking new with a vast airy modern and stylish atrium/reception area complete with numerous comfy sofas , - perfect for crashing out and relaxing into after a day of travelling.

There is a bar adjacent to the reception area and also an excellent restaurant for evening meals - the restaurant staff went out of their way one evening to organise us a cold platter of food when we arrived just after closing time late one evening hungry and thirsty after a long day out touring the island.

The bedrooms have all the mod cons you would expect with air con as standard , shower and bath and many rooms with balcony and sea views. A wireless internet connection was available for those with laptops and an urge to surf the net.

I took half board at the Hotel and had an excellent breakfast from the self service buffet loaded with everything from a healthy yoghurt, fresh fruit and muesli style breakfast through to a traditional cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage ,tomato and eggs expertly cooked to order by the friendly chefs - sitting in the sun on the terrace with the waves gently lapping on the seashore whilst enjoying a cooked breakfast in mid October was a definite plus point !

Amenities: Pool , beach , Conference room, Spa , Gym , restaurant, terrace area with lurverley view of sea

    ....................................'I will be back'

    Sophisticated spa and special.

    from

I have just returned again to stay in this wonderful new hotel in Paphos. Having stayed in numerous hotels in Paphos over the last 4 years I had no hesitation but to book to stay again. The hotel is set in the most wonderful position on the beach at what is truly the better end of Paphos for sea, sunbathing, beach and views. Its quiet location guarantees peace and tranquility which one would expect and desire for a 4 star Spa Hotel. The decor is a mix of modern and traditional which are perfectly designed for each area of the building. The emphasise is on comfort and relaxion and creating an enviroment for all age groups and tastes. In fact this has been achieved in the interior design with fabulous colors and fabrics.

The friendly staff are always there to help and serve the clients and cope well under pressure. They take an interest in the clients and their needs, and the chef and his team are TOTALLY SUPERB.

The food is based on a modern mediteranean fresh and healthy menu..each day changing the dinner menu to include a fantastic choice of cooked to order meals and often an

amazing buffet consisting of the finest freshest foods available.

Also a 5 minute walk to 4 of the best restraunts in Paphos, CYPRIOT, FRENCH, ITALIAN and a superb STEAK and RIB HOUSE.

The gardens and grounds are simple and well kept with palm trees leading down to the sandy beach. There is a childrens play area and seperate play pool and shipwreck which adults also comment on as being very attractive.

The Spa, beauty and Gym areas are outstanding with the absolute latest equiptment and facilities to beat any other in Paphos town.

THIS HOTEL HAS A STRESS FREE ENVIROMENT IDEAL FOR A MIX OF RELAXATION, SPA BREAK ,FAMILY HOLIDAY AND FOR SPORT BASED CLIENTS .

Considering it is brand new and yet to reach its potential to attract returning clients I think the Aquamare will be the hottest hotel in Paphos once it has been discovered by holiday makers.

    CHERRY CLIFT.

    Wouldn't stay here again

    from

Stayed at the Aquamare in October 2006 we chose this hotel as we had watched it being built on previous visits to Paphos - our family has been holidaying in Paphos for 20 years. It was my 50th birthday my sister's silver wedding and another sister's 1st wedding anniversary (she married in Paphos in oct 2005).

There were 15 of us in total staying at this hotel ....Big Mistake....

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful but the staff and management let it down - they had not heard of customer care and service. Firstly we booked direct with the hotel and got "a good deal"!!!! Paid cash in advance and a few days before we travelled I found a deal on a Cyprus website offering less than HALF the price we had paid - I printed this off and showed it to the reservations manager who said she would get back to me - I am still waiting. My other sister and her family surprised us all by joining us for our 2nd week - they booked the executive suite, daily newspaper, fruit basket replenished daily, champagne on arrival??? Yes that was what they expected but the "champagne" was fizzy wine, the fruit was replenished once and they got 2 newspapers, after they had complained.

The pool bar was not open! The kids club was not fully operational! We had to ask for the key to open the door to the indoor pool! The shop was non existent!

We ate in the hotel one evening and the red wine was brought to us in a bucket of ice!!! they charged us £cyp5 for a plate of chips for my 2yr old neice.

We understood there may be a few teething problems and would have accepted all of the above IF the management or staff had been at all genuinely interested but I have never stayed anywhere where I felt less cared for or welcome.

Plus points - the staff in the Spa were excellent, the bar staff were also friendly and helpful and the breakfast staff although they seemed as though they had not worked in a restaurant were helpful and friendly. The rooms were small but adequate and beautifully furnished (after all it has only been open a few months) I would reccommend a superior room for the extra space.

We did however have a great holiday as always in Paphos despite the above comments, simply because we were all together. We ate out at some great places - Les Amis - consistently good, Yemens - great for snacks and cocktails, Konia Taverna in Konia - great authentic Greek food. Hired a car from CY Breeze, great service.

All in all the hotel lost out on our custom, had it been good we would have eaten and drank there most nights.

My sister husband and neice checked out for the last few nights of their holiday and went to the Elysium!!!

Needless to say we shall return to Paphos BUT NEVER to the Aquamare

    Worth a visit

    from

This hotel only opened in July '06 so it was only 2 months old when I visited with my wife.

It is not yet on any package deal for the UK.

It is a very modern trendy hotel. When we arrived we were disappointed with the location of our room but once we got to see the Reservations Manageress we got an upgrade to a full sea view, no questions asked!. The room itself was excellent. Always very clean and as you'd expect from a new hotel - in excellent order. Room was thoroughly cleaned every day. Free aircon and loads of proper English tv stations.

The hotel is a 10 min flat walk from Kato Paphos town where there are plenty of bars/restaurants etc. The buses stop 5 mins walk away and are every 10 mins in each direction.

The hotel is right on a small beach and the views from the beachside (back) of the hotel are superb.

    Fabulous 'fill your boots' breakfasts!

All staff are very friendly and are extreamly helpful.

Being a new hotel it still has a few niggles:

1 - Indoor pool heater was not working

2 - Kiddies outdoor pool out of action

3 - Shop (as advertised) not inexistence

4 - Reception staff can't do anything without manager approval

5 - Didn't seem to be any food available on Sunday night (we'd had a long day out and thought of just snacking at the hotel but no food anywhere)

6 - worst Cocktails in Paphos!

I gave this 4 rating as I feel once these niggles are sorted it will deserve a 5 rating from me.

Agia Kyiakis is a 12th-century A.D. Byzantine church. It is not overly impressive, but it does have a large basilica and bishop's palace surrounding it from the 4th century A.D. In the front courtyard of the church there stands a white, 1st-century pillar according to tradition, is the place where Paul was tied and scourged. Of course, there is no historical evidence for this claim but the pillar very well could have been around when Paul was ...

These graves are not thought to belong to royalty but to wealthy, prominent families and persons. The tombs date back to the 3rd-century B.C. The most impressive tombs are peristyle with Doric columns encircling an open court or lining the entrance way to the tomb. Each tomb was carved out from native rock and typically contained several graves (burial places). Most, if not nearly all, of these graves would have been present when Paul was visiting the city. ...
