Hi all. We had a pleasant night at the Bear Creek RV Park but we were set to move along today since our space was not available for another night. It turns out that a travel group from South Carolina is having their rally here, so they booked up much of the park.

... windy and there were lots of flying gnats about. After lunch, we got our stuff together for a hike around Max Patch. Right across the street from the parking area, I found a nice patch of red trillium. Then we started hiking the Max Patch Loop Trail in the clockwise direction. The trail initially heads into a wooded area around the base of the mountain and we saw a lot of trout lilies here, but not a lot of other wildflowers. I guess things ...

... VA. Leaving just a four hour drive for today. In bright sunshine. And cloudless skies. Hot damn.

Smaller bites of travel gave me a more relaxed demeanor and it was an eye-opening, refreshing joy to drive through the rolling hills of the South. Where there are juxtapositions of old and new literally feet apart -- modern farm equipment next to what was once a functioning, proud barn but is now a structure dilapidated, rotting wood embraced by vine and neglect. ...
