There's a kind of hush...

... VA. Leaving just a four hour drive for today. In bright sunshine. And cloudless skies. Hot damn.

Smaller bites of travel gave me a more relaxed demeanor and it was an eye-opening, refreshing joy to drive through the rolling hills of the South. Where there are juxtapositions of old and new literally feet apart -- modern farm equipment next to what was once a functioning, proud barn but is now a structure dilapidated, rotting wood embraced by vine and neglect. ...

We left home mid-morning and took a mini road trip (about an hour out of Asheville), to Dupont Forest to hike the trails to see the waterfalls! Wow... The scenery is amazing there. Definitely worth the drive! It's peaceful, green and most of the tracks are shaded by the trees so it makes it a very pleasant walk. We first walked to High ...

... and had a successful party for 50 of our family and friends along with a wedding and reception at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Phew! We are ready for some relaxation and having nothing to worry about but how will we spend the day. Aside from our first few nights, we have nothing concrete planned and no reservations of any kind. We will study the books, talk with people and let our direction of travel ...
