Pasties are a type of pie that miners used to take with them to work in their lunch buckets - filled with potatoes, rudabagas and meat- and are a specialty in Michigan's Upper Penninsula (UP)
... that I just cannot resist. I keep hoping to see the Aurora Borealis, but unfortuntately, it is probably the wrong time of year for this. However, it does seem to be the right time of year for trees changing color. They are just beginning to change here and are getting prettier as we go further north. We once saw the most beautiful fall colors anywhere on the Upper Peninsula, but this was in October, and we are too early for the peak this year.
We always stop in Marquette, Mi to go to the Huron Bakery...they have so many great goodies...hard to choose just one! We then made a stop at the Info Booth...Always interesting to stop at an information centre and this time since we were in Marquette, Michigan where they gave us such a great welcome and run down on what to see that we just had to take the scenic route. We usually take Hwy 28 all the way through to I75 and on into ...
Had a great day 'sightseeing' around Munising. Waterfalls are beautiful in this area. Took a cruise to view the 'Picture Rocks' from the water. It was sunny when we left, but a little foggy right by the rocks. We're hunkered down in Marquette at the Tourist Park Campground for one night then plan on heading up the Keweenaw Peninsular.
