... St. Mary River. We had seen a couple of the Great Lakes in previous trips but this trip we saw them all. From the Soo we headed west with a couple of destinations in mind - Whitefish Point and Tahquamenon Falls. Highway 28 was a very nice driving road and not much traffic. And finally we saw a bear -- he ran across the highway, maybe 1/4 mile ahead of Harvey, if only we had been about 15 seconds earlier or there had not been a car ...

Twelve Mile Beach Campground is quite nice but very different from Hurricane River. While one is set back in the woods with isolated campsites the other sits on a bluff above the lake and limited privacy to neighboring sites. Access to the beach at Twelve Mile is good and you can walk for miles without seeing anyone. Its also a great place to look for rocks. ...
