... views and sensational sunset. Following the cruise, we picked up take-out pasties for supper on our way back to our campground. Pasties are a type of pie that miners used to take with them to work in their lunch buckets - filled with potatoes, rudabagas and meat- and are a specialty in Michigan's Upper Penninsula (UP)
... that I just cannot resist. I keep hoping to see the Aurora Borealis, but unfortuntately, it is probably the wrong time of year for this. However, it does seem to be the right time of year for trees changing color. They are just beginning to change here and are getting prettier as we go further north. We once saw the most beautiful fall colors anywhere on the Upper Peninsula, but this was in October, and we are too early for the peak this year.
Had a great day 'sightseeing' around Munising. Waterfalls are beautiful in this area. Took a cruise to view the 'Picture Rocks' from the water. It was sunny when we left, but a little foggy right by the rocks. We're hunkered down in Marquette at the Tourist Park Campground for one night then plan on heading up the Keweenaw Peninsular.
Taking our time driving through the U.P. Such a pretty area and so much to see. It rained this morning but cleared in the afternoon. As we drove through Curtis, we noticed the 'Peaceful People' at the beginning of homeowner's driveways. Then we saw an entire community of them. See pictures. Tomorrow we plan on seeing the 'Picture Rocks'.
... Munising on Lake Superior and got tickets for the boat ride to Pictured Rocks. This was about a two hour boat ride east along the shore to a lot of sandstone rock cliffs. A lot of them had been named for their appearance. The colors were pretty and it was nice to ride in a boat for a while.
