Update time!

We arrived in Ito by shinkansen, the super fast bullet train that Japan is known for, and headed to our inn with an expectation of some peace and quiet and a hot bath (a soak in a traditional onsen). What we didn't expect was just how amazing our stay would be! As we happened upon the building after a tiny stroll down the hill with our already heavy packs we turned onto a small side street to behold the 100 year old ...

... find a nice place to eat. We found ourselves a nice fish restaurant. Once we were in we noticed that the entire menu and everything in the restaurant was in Japanese only and nothing in english but the waitress had the translations written down in her notebook so we eventually managed to order. I ordered what i think was a fish-hamburger (well that's how it was translated anyway and we both ordered sake to make the whole experience ...

Since i was in no hurry and the next two days were planned as resting days i set the alarm for 8am and left the hostel at 9. I got out of the Shinjo-Futo station, which they pronounce Shinjoftoo ...

Ito Arrival

Ito is a laid back city with lots of onsens. I stayed at the K's House hostel. It's 2900¥ but very nice place to stay and it has a onsen which one can explore. The hostel used to be a hotel and it dates back to 100 years ago. Very old wooden structure. Quite an experience for couple of nights. To get here it took me most of the day. It was two train rides and 5 hours of travel. Relaxed in the bath and have a good night ...

... on a slightly downhill road. I made good time as I worked my way back to Mishima satisfied with the quality of riding in the Izu Hanto. This area is almost like a mini version of Japan with mountains, coastline, little villages, rice fields and onsens all within easy reach of one or two days of cycling.

Safely back at the Toyoko Inn, the tour is now over. I will summarize the stats and my final thoughts in the next entry.
