... in our new room which was a traditional Japanese ryokan. We tried some traditional Japanese green tea which we sipped whilst sitting on cushions on the floor.

... told me there were no monkeys around and that they were trying to find them and lure them back to the park's hot spring pool. Being monkeys, I guess, they do their own thing and, apparently, there is a lot of food available higher up in the mountains which is where they go at this time of year. However, the park attendant did say that they may be back tomorrow morning.

I'm off to Nagano tomorrow which is only 20 km away to rest my knee.

... all sweaty, I had a good wash. Unlike in the western culture where we usually stand to shower, here we sit on stools and use a hand shower or fill a wash basin with water and dump it over our heads.
