... It’s hard stuff to be on a super long vacation. You have to throw in some beach time now and again. After the refreshing swim, I decided it was time for a massage since a masseuse was conveniently located right there. I picked the 1-hour deep tissue massage. I laid down and the African woman went to work. About 20 minutes into it, I decided that she has probably never been to any kind of formal training before because she lacked the necessary skills ...

So the Masaai Mara was AMAZING. We somehow lucked in and managed to see things many people never get the opportunity to see. The first evening we watched a pride of lions with one male and about 5 females and 5 cubs. The safari vehicles are great where you can pop your head out the top. The ...

Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania awakeandreaming... every time something cool swam under her. We spent a few more nights in Stone Town after our beach days. The highlights were listening to some live Tarob music one night and visiting the old slave market. There is an Anglican church on the sight of the slave market now. The history of the slave trade was well described and left us with many thoughts. The last day was spent enjoying Zanzibar spice coffee and tea while frantically shopping.

Bente had invited us for a traditional Swahili dinner, which was really really nice. We had banana, vegetable, and beef stew and spinach in coconut sauce with sweet potatoes for dessert. We spent all night talking and it was quite late before we made it back to the huts.
Changuu Island, Tanzania ccinafricaZanzibar. The name conjurs up images of Ali Baba and the forty thieves, of exotic mysteries. Coming to Tanzania, we couldn't pass up the chance to visit the island of Zanzibar, which is just 1 1/2 hours by boat from Dar Es Salaam. We arrived into to Stone Town, the old historic city of Zanzibar. Here we found a mix of Muslim and Swahili culture in a beautiful city. It has narrow alleys twisting in every different direction. You hear the call to prayer at 4:30 ...
Stone Town, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania thomasmb... by a 600 pounder going for the cabbage in his hand. The Indian-Zanzibari owner of the waterfront Indian restaurant where we booked our boat trip is quite a character, full of personality. His name is Joshi, and he related to us a lot of local political anecdotes.
