We're having a wonderful stay, warm comfy rooms, delicious after dinner deserts and breakfast and amazing hospitality from Lynette who has not only made us feel right at home but suggested activities we might enjoy and organised ice hockey tickets for us. Wish we could stay longer

It was a great 2nd day in the finger lakes! We started the morning by going to Watkins Glen State Park, which is right at the base of Seneca Lake. It was a beautiful hike along the waterfalls...we took the gorge trail north and then the Indian trail south. A very hot day, so a hike along the water in the shade was perfect! For people who love to see Aeroplane and Gliders Elmira Soaring Museum is a must visit. There are places where visitors can just sit and watch the gliders being towed up in the air, and there is also the possibility to purchase a Glider ride for yourself.

The upper entrance had some park area where kids 5 to 12 can play, other than ...
... beyond the gorge. Shortly after that there’s an overlook directly opposite Lucifer Falls. It took us about 20 min to get to the end of the trail from there. The trail is pretty level after that so taking the Upper Gorge Trail CCW to the overlook (or as far as the staircase) will give you nice view if you can’t handle the climbing.
We made it back to the hotel and got cleaned up then drove a few minutes to Horseheads for a nice dinner at Louies Hanover Square. ...
... seems to be the "raison d'etre" of this city. Everything looks a little tired and worn, too. But once we crossed into the state park, my opinion changed drastically. Neat, well cared for, and not terribly crowded on a Thursday afternoon, the Niagara Falls State Park was lovely to stroll around in. Chris had purchased Discovery Passes for us in advance, and we picked these up at the main visitors center. Our passes ...
